Linksys 4200e v1. with Tomato firmware setup
    I am using: 1.28.0503 MIPSR2Toastman-RT-N K26 USB VLAN-VPN-NOCAT

    Hello,
I am currently doing some speedtest.org tests and discovered some interesting things. I am not sure if it is a normal? Checking my internet speed via hard wire connection (PC-modem/router) my speeds are the way should be 25/8. But while using wi-fi (notebook, Iphone, Ipad, Ipod) with minimum distance to the router my speeds shows only between 12/7 to 19/7. Is is the way supposed to be or I need to change something in my settings? I believe my router shouldn't decrease speed so much with almost no distance between router and checking device?
Additionaly I have found that some packets are missing (errors) while performing WinMTR test. Kindly check my stats below.

    Code:

I assume you are talking about the 2.4GHz band. A screenshot of your basic wireless settings would be helpful. 20MHz channel width is highly recommended. If you changed any advanced wireless settings (eg frame burst) then posting those would be helpful as well. I also recommend scanning for adjacent APs and picking channel 1, 6, or 11 to avoid the most populated channels.

Above and below you can find some screenshots. If you need more information about my settings please let me know.

Change wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11 (1 may be good if you've been having trouble on 8)

    Disable frame burst

Set transmission power to 0 (hardware default)

Enable WMM (possible exception if you're on Comcast, but please try for now)

    Thanks Marcel for your information.
I have made those changes in Linksys. Would you be able to help me and check my modem/router settings (which is 1st in line)? I have set up 2 routers in my house. My main router is SR505n. I have some issues with my internet since I've upgraded from DSL to AVDS2+. I am getting correct speed which is 25 downloading and 8 uploading. But when I stream HD channels using hard wire connection between my streaming device and SN505n router video freezes from time to time. I have started to check my line for errors and as you can see in my attachments it looks I am having quite a few errors. But what is strange some errors are between PC and modem/router (using wired connections). I understand that if errors are outside it is internet issues but inside it looks like something is wrong with my setting. Am I correct or it is the way can be?
Thank you again for your time and your help,

If you have two routers set up on the same network, make sure that you have DHCP turned off on one of them. The second router needs to be set up as an access point only. I noticed that you say the SR505n is the main router but your settings seem to show DHCP set up on the E4200 v1. Turn that off if it is active on the SR505n and then reboot your clients. I am assuming that your E4200 v1 is wired into the SR505n.

If it were me, I would turn off DHCP on the E4200 since your SR505n is the main router (gateway) and the E4200 is acting as an access point. You would then need to make sure that you point the access point to the correct gateway ip address. The E4200 would need to be wired in LAN to LAN.

Would you please let me know how to make sure to point the access point to the correct ip address?
So in this new configuration all my devices will have IP from my SR505n router assinged? In my current configuration 2nd router which is E4200 is asingning IP to my wi-fi and wan devices.
    Thank you,

After you turn off DHCP on the E4200 you would enter 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway. That address was obtained by looking at the screen captures above which I think are from your SR505n.

RE: So in this new configuration all my devices will have IP from my SR505n router assinged?

Yes, that way you have no devices isolated from each other. Life will be in harmony and your network will be chemically balanced. :)

Well noted. I will enter 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway within E4200 and will turn off DHCP on it. Also I will wire both routers LAN to LAN.

Will I be able to mornitor all my connections via E4200 (browsing history, usage, QoS, parental control, VPN etc) from E4200? Or in this case all must be mornitor via SR505n?

I am not sure which monitoring functions will work but you should be okay monitoring the device's connected to the E4200.

I just need clarification on one thing. Is default gateway = Route modem IP (in my case)? Because on instruction mentioned above I should in the 2 router which is my E4200:
Under the Basic Setup sub-tab, look for IP Address or Local IP Address.
NOTE: If the IP address is the same as the main router, change the fourth octet (the number in the fourth box) to a different value.

So according to above in my example:

Main router: 192.168.0.1 -> Secondary router should be: 192.168.0.2

    Thank you,

    koze

That is correct, the IP address of the E4200 should be 192.168.0.2. However after you disable DHCP on the E4200 there will be a box available in the section right below that to enter the IP address of the default gateway. There you would enter 192.168.0.1

So I have made those changes but something is wrong. Can you kindly check my screen shots and let me know if you see something missing or wrong entry. My main router/modem is 192.168.0.1 and is SR505n
Second in the row is E4200 as 192.168.0.2 The problem is that some of my devices cannot connect to the internet even though they are connected to the network. :(

On the E4200 set your static dns also to 192.168.0.1

Thanks a lot LanceMoreland. Huge difference now.

I have noticed on my control panels that most of the devices has the same IP addresses shown on SN505n and E4200 but some has different ones. Is that the way should be? Yesterday before I got your message I assigned some static addresses to both devices I am not sure if I should it?
If I want to add static address for any device, should I add to both routers or only one. If one which one is responsible to assigning IP's?
    Thanks in advance,

The SN505n should be assigning addresses.

You do not need to add the static assignments in the E4200. The only real reason to do so would be if you wanted the devices connected to the E4200 to show up with their assigned names on the devices list page.

I have noticed recently that my router cannot connect to NTP time server. I am getting time as Dec 30, 1970. Any idea how to change this?
    Thanks in advance,

On the ADVANCED->DHCP/DNS page, do you have "Use user-entered gateway if WAN is disabled" checked?
