i just bought a used Linksys E3200 on ebay here in germany.
I did this to be able to use tomato and "privateinternetacess vpn"

the right shibby build for this device i located and downloaded.

now i am unsure on how to proceed - i can not locate an up to date howto regarding flashing tomato on the linksys E3200...

lots of articles out there but nothing really revealing to my situation.

there seem to be many approaches:

1 - can i just flash this firmware via the stock linkksys webgui after a 30 30 30 reset before and after ?
2 - do i have to use TFTP - i am on a macbook running mountain lion.
what would be the exact commands and sequence from a mac osx terminal ?
3- do i have to do the initial steps from the ddwrt wiki and then reflash with tomato ?

please point me in the right direction :)

    thank you

i have a E3200 in use but i migrated from DD WRT to Tomato - so there was no Need for inital Flash.

Things you should do before flashing your Firmware is a 30-30-30 reset to clear all Settings (they are stored in NVRAM - storage for Settings and not affected from power-loss e.g. like RAM)
You can Flash the .bin via Webpage/webinterface of your router - i suggest to set a static IP on your Workstation - if you Need further Information how to use static IPs, just let us/me know

Version 108 is the current one :) so that file is the correct one

After flashing you should wait approx. 5 minutes to settle things down and do a 30-30-30 reset.

Be warned: 30-30-30 resets are done on the E3200 via the red reset-button on the bottom of the device AND unplugged LAN Cables/Wan cables - so only power cord is plugged in

Due i'm not sure whether you can use this tomato build for Initial Flash, does anyone know whether this file can be used?

    thanks for the detailed reply.

still i am wondering if i can just flash the linksys e3200 with

from the stock firmware gui ...

or do i have to flash it with a dd wrt initial build first....

what would be the correct dd wrt initial build?

the file listed here as trailed initial build does not download from germany...

i used for inital flashing this file: dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200.bin

But at that time i was used to DD WRT and not using tomato - so you can try flashing this file via Webinterface if you can find it :)
Afterwards, 30-30-30 reset - Flash tomato. This way it worked for me.

If any issues occur, feel free to post your results!
Oder mach ma's Deutsch: Wenns ned klappt, den E3200 sollte man auch wiederbeleben können, falls wirklich in die Hose geht ^^

ill try to flash it directly with tomato-E3200USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-108-AIO.bin
    once it arrives tomorrow.

    cheers ;-)

    It is done :)

You can flash the tomato firmware on the Linksys Cisco E3200 right out of the Linksys stock firmware web gui.
NO NEED TO PRE FLASH ITWITH A DD WRT trailed initial build....

And the complete process hardly took 10 minutes ;-)

Dualband Wlan works fine with Shibbys build ( no issues here with the 5Ghz band ! )

    1. Download one of the firmwares that have e3200 in their name from this page:

    I used „tomato-E3200USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-108-AIO.bin“

    2. Do a 30/30/30 reset:
To do a 30-30-30 reset you must push the reset button with your router powered on. Hold it for 30 seconds with the router powered on. STILL holding it, pull the power cord for 30 seconds. Still holding it, plug the power back into your router and continue to hold the reset button for 30 more seconds. You will have held the button for a full 90 seconds without releasing it.
Be warned: 30-30-30 resets are done on the Linksys E3200 via the red reset-button on the bottom of the device AND UNPLUGGED LAN Cables/Wan cables - so ONLY power cord is plugged in the router.

    3. Go to the web ui of your router and authenticate when required (user:admin,or blank, passw:admin):

    4. Go to Administration > Firmware update

    5. Select the file you just downloaded

    6. Hit Update

    7. Wait 5 minutes

    8. Do a 30/30/30 reset

    9. Go to your new web ui and auth (user:root, passw:admin or root):

    10. I could not reach the tomato web ui at this point so i unplugged and replugged the powercord of the E3200 router at this point – After 1 powercycle and a 5 min wait all was well and i could log into tomato just fine.

Same process. You can flash stock firmware from the Tomato web GUI following the same steps.

I just flashed my E3200 with the latest Toastman build. The 5 ghz wireless radio isn't even showing in the GUI? Why?

5GHz enabled in Shibby's mod, AFAIK not enabled in Toastman, Victek, or dd-wrt.

Thanks. I should have flashed to Shibby in the first place. What fantastic work he has done! I am now switching all my routers from Toastman to Shibby.

I should have been more clear, 5GHz enabled for E3200 and E2500 only by Shibby. No need to switch your other routers from Toastman if they are meeting your needs.

Oh I know. I've been running Toastman for years on E3000, E2500, E4200, and tons of other routers. I just never tried Shibby. I'm very impressed with the features and performance.

    Hello there,

Just to personally thank you for the feedback and the howto. I am currently the proud owner of an E3200 flashed with the latest stable Shibby build and everything is working as expected (at least the wide amount of features which i was able to test so far)

    Vielen Dank.
