What is the difference between the firmware 4.70.6 and the 1.05.4? Is the large file transfer issues in the firmware 1.05.4 already fixed. see changelog from firmware 4.50.6 below.

    Firmware 4.50.6
    - Adds SecureEasySetup push button support
    - Resolves large file transfer issues
    - Resolves issue with enabling TKIP after enabling WEP
    - Updated QoS features
    - Resolves issues with multiple Access Restrictions policies
    - Resolves issue where multicast breaks when MAC filter status changes

You should have clarified earlier that you were comparing WRT54GS.

FW 1.05.4 is for v4 hardware and runs on 16MB RAM / 4 MB Flash - basically the same hardware as the WRT54G v4 hardware.

Firmware release notes for WRT54GS v4:
It still runs GPL Linux but most firmware hacks for the WRT54GS expects v1~v3 hardware which has 32MB RAM / 8 MB Flash because it needs the bigger memory.

As such, it seems Linksys removed some lesser used functions in these newer WRT54GS. Also note that with firmware code reverting back to 1.0x, there is a possibility of inability to support WDS bridging (which requires 2.0x or above firmware).
