I believe you can, however i am not a fan of running a device as a vpn endpoint that is not designed to do so. Will it run, i have heard so, but i have never ventured down that road as i dont see it being anyware neas as capable to a device that is designed to do so and doesnt really cost all that much more considering.

Good vs price point is always going to be an issue. Depending on how much traffic you are going to be pushing across the vpn you may get away with a software implementation with much issue. However if you have a good size pipe comming into your place and plan on running alot of traffic across it something that offloads the vpn to hardware is more along the line of what you really need. And with that you are going to bring in a little more expense. If you shop around you can get something for probably around 100 give or take a little. But my preference is a cisco 851 or 871,netscreen 5xp, 5xt or the like also checkpoint makes a good product. I have used all the above and they all work great, the netscreen will probably be the cheapest. Now dont get me wrong, can you get some of these other devices to work, of course. But for me and what life has taught me over the years, you really do get what you pay for.
