Linksys Standards Are Beneath Acceptable

    The biggest issue we've found with ANY Linksys equipment is that when it goes wrong (which it inevitably does), the customer service is just so bad that you have no hope of getting it put right without resorting to legal recourse.

    They dont publish any complaints procedure, they dont escalate problems (so if the customer support rep you're dealing with is useless, tough luck!) and they dont answer their phones very often (or if they do then expect to spend an average of 6 hours on the telephone during a "simple" problem resolution if they CAN resolve it).

    Most other manufacturers manage to do it better and I would have to say (professionally and personally) that Linksys are to be avoided for the foeseable future.

    Yes, we began with the online support chat system. It was having problems (kept breaking down) and when we were finally able to get to speak to someone, we had real difficulty getting them to understand English. It would have been comical if it hadnt been so poor a standard of business.

    Yes, I gather that you were one of the "lucky ones" because we're having a lot of clients and colleagues complaining about the same things: Linksys wireless reliability and customer service standards.
    It seems that at least one consumer group agrees....

    Saw your post on DSLreports as well...

    I also responded to that..I had a SL go south on me, turnaround time on the RMA was about seven days. Not too shabby. Sucks to hear you had a problem.

    I think what made mine easier is that I'm a network engineer by trade as well, and I told the CS reps trying to walk me through everything that I had isolated the problem to this and this, and knew the router was bad. Gave me an RMA number that day and I was off and running with the replacement before you know it.

    Linksys is nothing more than a sinking ship . I have tested the wrv200 , wap54gpe & wvc200 & they all fail miseralbly to live up to specifications .

    When they target the SOHO market people expect to get a reasonably trouble free product not troubleshooting & beta testing for linksys .

    I just attempted to update a wap54gpe for a client that was unable to load the image .

    The webmaster at linksys needs to be fired for linking the wap54gpe firmware to the wap54gp which is not compatable .

    I suspect they did the same thing with the WRT54G v1-3 . Users now report the webbased GUI says WRT54GL . :thumbdown:

    Just to followup on Simon's comments. I too had a very good experience with the "live chat" feature.

    Only seconds before a support guy came online.

    The guy's English seemed like a native speaker, and his "walk thru" was clear, accurate, and worked!

    Might be worth giving it another try

    Simon,

    So what you're saying is that anyone whos visiting these forums and is considering buying Linksys products, you only want them to see positive comments, not the thousands of others who have bad experiences with them?

    I have to ask, why so biased? Why are you against potential Linksys customers getting a more balanced view?

    p.s Posting the web address for the generic Linksys customer web comment webform is exactly the sort of issue that Linksys have and was quite a lame thing to do. Why dont you do something really helpful and post their customer complaints address?

    Nobody's against freedom of expression nor, for that matter, specifically criticizing a vendor for poor service. The main theme for these forums is offering advice for fixes, workarounds, general setup issues...basically "help". Using the forums as a forum for general bellyaching and railing against Linksys goes against the spirit of this site though you'd be hard-pressed to find any specific prohibition against this. You could always look to see if "linksys-sucks.org" is an available domain....

    Linger around a bit and get a sense for things and you'll see what I mean!

    So, let me ask you this...what brand of router do you prefer? If you have one, it's obviously not Linksys, so why not buy that one instead?

    I was looking for a discussion of Linksys Products, in general, and Linksys Corp as a whole.

    This is great.

    I have been using networking gear since 1989, when i built my first LAN, using D-Link gear. Yuck! It only partially worked right.
    SO i forever abandoned D-Link.

    I went searching and used a bunch of others for a couple of years. Settled on Linksys.

    Been using Linksys ever since. I was so happy when CIsco bought them. Now we will get some action, i thought! Not!

    Instead, it appears Cisco is intent on pumping the well dry. For the last several months, i have had a whole series of major problems with Linksys products, hardware, software, tech support, etc, etc.
    SO much so, that i now ask the question... who is the best small office network gear company on the planet? CIsco? Linksys?
    ...or someone else.?

    I suspect someone else, so i am now embarking on a project to answer that question.

    I hope this forum, and these discussions will help us all answer the questions that we have and foster open discussions about experiences, good or bad, so we can form educated opiniions.

    I'm not trying to complain about Linksys; I just want to get the best value for the dollar for myself and hundreds of clients/projects.

    The forum is not for "bitchin" at anyone, it is purely for helping people with problems. This site is not run by linksys. it is a community based forum for helping linksys users. if you dont need help or want to give someone help, then you dont need to be here.

    If you want to bitch at linksys, then goto linksys.com and spread your hatred on there forums.

    these forums are for discussion for linksys users, their products and problems with their hardware

    it is not "LINKSYS IS THE PROBLEM - BITCH AT THEM forums".

    I have, like many others complained at linksys's statergies. postal mail is usually the only place you can get through to someone. They dont have the resources to read complaints via email or live chat tbh. Those options are like this forum, for helping connectivity issues only.

    I am now closing this thread. it is not helping anyone on this forum with a specific issue with regards to hardware problems.
    Comments, whatver they maybe are not really "on topic for the forum as a whole.

    I don't have time to moderate bitchin sessions. sorry
