    I'm sure it has been asked here but searching for the thread didn't give result.

    1. Can I update from WRT54GL 1.1 default firmware 4.30.7 to Tomato 1.04 directly through Linksys default web based firmware upgrade interface and do I need to restart or change any settings prior to updating?

    2. Can I reverse easily the Tomato firmware update to Linksys original?
    I downloaded firmware from Linksys site already ...

    Hi poperator,

    1. This is from the readme :

    Installing on a stock Linksys WRT54G, WRT54GL or WRT54GS
    • Open the Linksys GUI in your browser. The default URL is
    • Click the Administration tab, then Firmware Upgrade.
    • Select and upload the correct firmware for your router.
    • Wait for about 2 minutes while the firmware is uploaded & flashed.
    2. Yes no problem !

    But for both points : dont forget to clear NVRAM ! before and after flash !

    Thanks, searching for clear NVRAM leads to the repeative suggestion as essentila to do. But how, isn't already easy to find.
    Under Linksys Administration doesn'r seem to be such an option available ...
    or perhaps it means a restart button on back of the unit?

    Yes in Linksys Firmware there is no option to clear NVRAM (as far as i remember :biggrin: ). So the Reset button is the way to go. Best hold for 30sec

    It appears that my WRT54GL v1.1 is newer then Tomato:-(
    Tomato download comes with 3 bin versions and no one for GL v1.1. :-(
    Obviously the latest Tomato 1.04 supports only GL version 1.

    Use the bin in the G directory.

    just for completeness. Thats from the FAQ:

    Supported models
    CDF0/CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0
    CDF2/CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1
    CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0
    CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2
    CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0
    CDF9 = WRT54G v3.1
    CDFA = WRT54G v4.0
    CGN0/CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0
    CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1
    CGN3 = WRT54GS v2.0
    CGN4 = WRT54GS v2.1
    CGN5 = WRT54GS v3.0
    CGN6 = WRT54GS v4.0
    CL7A = WRT54GL v1.0
    CL7B = WRT54GL v1.1

    If it's not listed above, and it's not a WRT54GL, it's not supported.

    and this is from the readme:

    G\code.bin is for WRT54G v1-4 and WRT54GL v1.x, GS\code.bin is for WRT54GS v1-3, GSv4\code.bin is for WRT54GS v4, and TRX\code.trx is for the WHR-G54S/ WHR-HP-G54. If you're just upgrading an existing Tomato firmware from the GUI, any of these will work.
