I recently installed a linksys WRT54G. I noticed that the client devices have a different ip address assigned to them at various times. (It appears that they are assigned in the order that they last powered up and were recognized by the router.)

This makes things like my share folders become obsolete because they recognize the other client's resources by their ip address.

Is there a way to make the ip address constant for any given client that goes through the router?

you could try making the Client Lease Time longer, otherwise setting static addresses on the computers would make it work for sure.

Because the Ip address is given by DHCP server in the linksys router. So which ever computer starts first will get an Ip addres 192.168.1.100 and conseqently 101,102 like that.So if you dont want that one you need to assign static Ip address for all the computers that wont change .you can visit the web site www.linksys.com/kb and you can type file and printer sharing on the search box under easy answers or you can reffer tha article 193and 280.
