    When ever I turn on wpa, wep, or wireless MAC Filter my router stops working.
    As soon as I click save setting and continue it goes to connect back to the Ip of the router then it times out.
    Then all I can do is reset the router and start over.
    Firmware is Version: v3.03.6.

    Issue with the firmware. Try reflashing the firmware.

    After you add security you'll have to reestablish your wireless connection to the router. Try it with a hard connection and you should be fine working with it.

    how r u trying to connect to the router?? wirelessly or with a wire?? bc if was a wireless connection then u have to enable wep on the Device trying to connect into the router....but if it was a wire connection first i would check the wire and then i would check setting of the IP addressing and check the security settings on the router....that should help u out...

    I have the same problem as nightwing... I will describe my steps:

    1. Buy a WRT54G v2.2 / Firmware 3.03.1
    2. Unpack it and place it between the ADSL modem and 1 wired PC connected on port 1
    3. Via the 1 wired PC connected on port 1 I go to
    4. ONLY change DNS 1 and DNS 2 and the Time Zone
    5. Check if the wired PC can connect to the Internet > YES!
    6. Check if PDA (iPAQ 4150) can connect to the Internet > YES!
    7. Enable some security, such as WEP via the wired PC. Done this through and the wireless security tab. Choose WEP, choose 128 bits and fill in Key 1. Click on "Save Settings".

    At this moment the browser reacts that the change is succesfull, but doesn't go back to the normal management screen and times out! There's no connection (wired or wireless) possible anymore through the WRT54G and I have to (soft)reset it to go back to step 3.

    However, I don't give up too soon on these occassions, so I did a few more steps:

    8. Install other firmwares: Linksys 4.00.7 US, HyperWRT 2.0 and HyperWRT 2.1 Beta. Unfortunately, all of these firmwares react in the same way.
    9. Look through this forum > found this post without an anwser I didn't try.
    10. Called Linksys support > Walked through everything and they advised me to go back to the store and ask for another one.
    11. Went back to the store and received another one and - you won't believe this - EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!
    12. Crying like a baby and writing this post...

    If anyone can help me, please do so...

    Thanx in advance,

    The Netherlands

    maybe you could return this one and get a another wrt. here are the serial keys. look @ the serial key on the box beofre you buy. i would try a wrt54gv2 just becuase i have had 2 of them and no problems.

    CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
    CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset

    CGN0 = WRT54GS v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
    CGN3 = WRT54GS v2.0 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset

    you siad that when you enable wpa, wep, or wireless MAC Filter the router stop working. well what heppen if you just enable wpa. does it still work.?

    what happens when you enable mac filtering?

    what happens when you enable wep?

    do your clients support wep and wpa. are you entering the right mac address in the mac address field.

    can you see the ssid of the router when the security is enabled and you canot connect.

    @jagboy: I definately got a v2.2, because de S/N starts with CDF7. I don't think it's going to work to change to another wrt / another version, because the store just has one batch of these routers.
