    Having the WRT54G linksys device.

When I connected to the internet through cable to one of my router's rj45socket, I managed to download at a speed of 251 kBps, which is the max bandwidth of my ISP package.

But when I have tried to download the same file by the wireless mode a minute after the previous test; the donload rate was significally poorer , only 180 kBps.

What is the problem? why my wireless mode is so slower the the physical one?

Wireless is always slower than a wired connection. Additionally, your WRT54G is also a NAT router and as such you will lose some speed as the router processing all Internet traffic for you LAN devices (its the nature of the beast).
