I have a Linksys WRT54G which is set up to transmit the wireless signal but has the Sveasoft firmware. I was trying to to set up the WRE54G for my far away room but it isn't connecting at all. Even when I place it next to the router itself and press auto mode it doesn't work. It always shows me the link button as red. For some unfathomable reason the expander cant even be reset with the button and I cant update the software to the original Linksys firmware either. PLEASE HELP. Thanks to everyone who pitches in or even bothered looking in here.

Do you have SSID broadcast enabled, it should be. Make certain if you are using MAC address filtering to include the MAC address of the WRE54G in the list of PCs allowed to access the router, Do you have any kind of encryption? I believe the WRE54G did not support WPA until firmware version 6047.

Sorry for the late reply but anyways,
    I have SSID broadcast enabled
I do not have MAC filtering activated on my router
I do not have any sort of encryption on. Its an unsecured network

First with a unbent paper clip press the reset button on the WRE54G and then press the auto-configuration button on the WRE54G for a few seconds. The LEDs should flash red and then flash blue. If you do not get get a connection it may be an issue with the Sveasoft firmware setting, which firmware are you using and what Linksys firmware version is it based on?
