Discussion in 'Cisco/Linksys Wireless Routers' started by wirelesswannabe, Mar 10, 2006.

  1. Just installed a Linksys WRT54GS. it is connected to a SMC barricade which is connected to a DSL modem. When I connect to theWRT54GS using a cable I can connect to the internet. When I use wirless I can connect to the WRT54GS but not to the internet?

I am assuming that the SMC barricade is handling the PPOE logon and DHCP server functions. Set the local address of the WRT54GS to be on the same subnet as the DHCP server on the SMC barricade is issuing IP Addresses, but outside the range of the addresses the DHCP server, disable the DHCP server on the WRT54GS and save your settings. Go to advanced routing on your WRT54GS and set it as a router and not ass a gateway and save your setting. Set up your wireless connection, changing the SSID and setting the channel and encryption. You should change the password on the WRT54G. Connect the WRT54GS from one of its LAN ports to one of the LAN port on the SMC barricade and poer cycle it. The WRT54gs should work at this time.
