Looking at replacing wired router w/WRT54GS

I have an existing *wired* router, but I am looking to replace it with the WRT54GS w/SpeedBooster because I will be adding a single wireless *desktop* PC (with Linksys WiFi-G w/SpeedBooster PCI NIC). The wireless desktop will be exclusively used for AOL and a mailbox for guests/visiting relatives. The current PCs are both wired desktops. The structure is a two story house w/basement. Router and first PC are in the basement, second PC on the main floor, and the wireless desktop will be on the second floor. The wireless connection will use encryption for security. Are there any *gotchas* I should watch out for with a two-story encrypted wireless hop (especially in terms of range, speed, throughput, or security)? Also, how well do the wired ports perform compared to a wired-only router?

tbh you should put the wireless router high up. putiing it in a basement does very little to give good signal strength.

    just the same.
