the most stable & efficient 3rd party firmware for my Linksys WRT54GS router.

I'm a huge torrent download fiend. I notice that my internet connect also seems slow for the next few days after I'm done downloading. Also, while I'm downloading torrents, I can not get an internet connection. Is there a fix for these problems? Are there any tweaks I can apply to my router?

***EDIT*** - I have opened ports 6881-6999 on my router. I do have the lastest firmware (4.70.6) for my router.
Thanks for any help you can give,

I use Vonage, BitTorrent, and multiple VPN connections on my WRT54G V4. HyperWRT Tofu works very well for me.

    Uptime : 13 days, 21:36:26
    WAN (rx/tx) : 20.57 G / 21.47 G

I think any of the third party firmwares would do well for BitTorrent, as they all fix, or at least allow you to fix, the "5 day timeout" issue in the native firmwares.

I read that will only work on the WRT54G. I need something that is compatiable with my WRT54GS.

Sorry - missed the "S" on the end of your model #.

HyperWRT Thibor would be the best for you, IMHO. Same stuff as Tofu, basically, but with SpeedBooster support.

While we're at it, can someone explain what these acronyms mean:
