I finally took the plunge looking to get a good router with QOS and the ability to maintain alot of connections 300+. After doing some research I decided I wanted to get a router that supported Tomato and/or DD-WRT. About the only one that seemed to fit this criteria was the WRT54GL, which is what I received my WRT54GL v1.1 from Amazon on Friday. After loading Tomato on successfully and running eMule, the router reconnected after about 4 hours. I thought it was odd but it happened shortly after again. ATM I've put on Tomato with the Viktek mod, but the same thing still happens. If I go thru the DSL modem itself I'm able to stay connected for weeks if not months until I decide whether I want to disconnect. While the router does not seem to reboot, I do get a message in XP saying that the LAN just connected or whatever that message is, this is the type of message that you'd normally see if you would just plug in the ethernet cable into a router port. The uptime on the router is 0 days, 18:12:42, but the connection is at 0 days, 00:46:44. Below I'll include the lines of the log before and after the connection, they seem the same all the time. I'll exclude the lines with my IP address.

I would like to know how to have this not happen at all, this has happened with and without QOS enabled. Right now under ConnTrack/Netfilter it says I have 591 connections tracked. It never got above 800 with regular Tomato 1.21 that had a limit of 4096 the Victek mod 1.21.8005 I'm using has a 10240 limit. Within eMule I have it set at 150 max connections, I'm also running Trillian which is connected to 6 IM accounts, Windows Live messenger, aswell as any webpages I've browsed that may have caused connection. When I flashed Tomato and Tomato Victek mod I did "Erase all data in NVRAM memory (thorough)" each time. Do I have a faulty router or what is going on? My DSL is 768/128 which is why I got the router for QOS in order to give priority to ports/applications I need to work with while still being able to maximize my P2P.

edit: Forgot to mention I'm talking about losing connection to the ISP. Also I'm connected to the router via Ethernet cable on port 2, nothing else is connected and wireless is turned off.

It happened again today :( At this point I'm thinking of just contacting Amazon in order to send it back and get my money, of course I will reflash with the Linksys firmware. Anyone dealt with Amazon and how receive a full refund and not be charged for shipping on a product I consider defective? Also what amount of P2P connections should I realistically expect for this router to hold under Tomato? While monitoring it has never gotten to 1024 connections under Conntrack, I have it set up to max 4096. The max I've seen is 800 or so, I wasn't here today when it disconnected, however this time the uptime of the connection was 1129 minutes. I'm using an eMule mod based on 0.49b, I just don't want this to continue as a recurring issue and I don't expect this from something that cost me $50 that I expressly bought for keeping a connection on at all times. I've been connected before for 20+days thru my DSL modem with no issues and about the same kind of P2P activity, however there is no QOS thru that or graphs or record of data gone by, which I'm a stat type nut and I like.

I too have the same router and firmware and have seen this problem. The router is showing

    10/23/2008 9:57:38 PM <30>pppoe[77]: Sending LCP Termination-Ack

This was happening back in August and also had problems with disconnects occurring even when the router was by passed. The ISP sent out a couple of techs and the problem seemed to go away until today. I have had the same IP since August.

Today I needed to get a different IP and ever since then my DSL connection has been up and down like a toilet seat. The only way I can get the linksys to reconnect is to power cycle the router. Thats the same thing I had to do back in August!
