Lost internet connection on 1 computer

    Hello, first sorry for my english... I have 2 computer with WRT54G router, and I use modem cable for my internet, that morning when I started my computer connect connect diorectly with the router and the modem, no intenet, I close zone alarm, no internet, I tried to open my router , not able, I go on the computer with the wireless connection, no problems.

    What can cause that problem.

    When I did a ipconfig, my computer give me the xp ip adress,.......

    any ideas.

    You are probably not getting DHCP. Either manually configure your IP address or RELEASE AND RENEW your IP address.

    Goal: Make sure router is obtaining outside IP number from cable modem

    Have you tried plugging one of your computers--configured to obtain an IP address automatically--directly into your cable modem to make sure it can grab a valid IP address? (I would start out with ZoneAlarm enabled for security reasons) Take note of the ip address on this computer if all goes well.

    If you can surf when plugged directly into your cable modem, then try re-connecting your router and then access your router using your browser. Check the status of the router and see if the IP address corresponds to your ISPs address and subnet (not some number beginning with 169)

    If you see that the router has a valid IP address obtained from your cable modem, then at least that's a start.
