    Hi all,

Have just upgraded from version 1.09 to 1.10. All seems to go well and there have been no problems performance/availability wise so far.

I have noticed, however, a large number of DHCPREQUEST & DHCPACK in the log:

    Oct 10 08:06:28 MAYHEM daemon.info dnsmasq[122]: DHCPREQUEST(br0) 192.168.1.22 00:19:1d:fa:8b:29
    Oct 10 08:06:28 MAYHEM daemon.info dnsmasq[122]: DHCPACK(br0) 192.168.1.22 00:19:1d:fa:8b:29 Wii
    Oct 10 08:08:26 MAYHEM daemon.info dnsmasq[122]: DHCPREQUEST(br0) 192.168.1.22 00:19:1d:fa:8b:29

The seem to occur every 2 to 10 minutes and they are all from my Nintendo Wii. Any ideas why this is happening? Should I be worried?

    Thanks for any help :)

What lease time have you set? The client will try to renew at half this time. When windows PCs lose internet connection they send out lots of dhcp renew requests to try to kickstart the network - maybe the WII does the same - and is trying to tell you it hasn't got a good internet connection with all ports forwarded etc?

My lease time is set at the default (3600 minutes). The Wii seems to have a good internet connection - it retrieves messages, downloads updates/games etc...

After the upgrade to 1.10 I did add the following Dnsmasq custom configuratoion settings (from a post on this forum):

    cache-size=2048
    log-async=5
    dhcp-authoritative
    strict-order

    Would these make a difference?

I don't think that custom dns config will affect dhcp.

If its any consolation I am also getting lots of Requests/Acks from windows clients - I don't remember this from previous version of Tomato...

Those requests are normal. My Log is spammed with dhcp requests from clients. It's usually because the connection goes down intermittently due to interference.

The Wii is pretty picky about Wireless network configuration. You might want to try forcing your network to B (recommended by Nintendo), and lowering the beacon interval to something like 50.

I may have (partially) solved my own problem. Instead of just giving the Wii a random IP (ie: normal DHCP), I gave it a static IP (where the lease time is set as infinite). Now the DHCPREQUEST messages in the log are much less frequent. Every 30 minues versus every 5 to 10.
