MAC Address cloning

I recently bought a WAG54G to replace the crappy usb only modem that my isp provides, but unfortunately my ISP does not allow "unauthorized" adsl modems on their network. They filter the mac addresses to allow only registered modems on the network. Is their any way the WAG54g can be setup to clone the mac address of my usb modem?

unless the firmware allows MAC Address Cloning, then no.

thanks for the answer. I browsed this forum and could not find any alternate firmware for the wag54g. I assume currently there is no other firmware other than the official linksys firmware which does not support mac address cloning,

thats correct the WAG54G runs some weird OS and is not bound by GPL licensing like the WRT54G. you could try and ask them to add a mac address clone feature into it.

I'm no expert on these units so what follows is completely at your own risk and only theoretical.

If you open a WAG54G you'll find a mini PCI wireless card. This can be inserted into a laptop.

There a program called MACMakeUp (google for it) that'll change the MAC address of a card (it even allows you to select a random address by manufacturer).

Remove card from laptop and put back into WAG54G.

As I said, this is only theoretical - it's up to you what you do with your own unit.

Thats a nice tool for windows but will not help for the wag54g.

As far as i can tell the changes you make using this tool do not actually change the mac address of the card but only change the address in software.

this works for windows but unless we get a similar tool into the firmware of the wag54g it will not help.
