I am new to the use of wireless systems. I have a WRT54G router and have been using it for about 6 months. About 4 days ago I lost my connection to broadband (ntl) via the router, I am now connected directly via cable to the STB. Every time I try to reconnect through the router I lose my internet connection. I have been advised to clone the MAC address? I have no idea how to do this can someone help???

check the screen shot out here:

as you see this is the same as:

just enabled mac cloning and click on apply, then you router will clone the mac address of you PC and not use the mac address of the router.

you can also over come this by powering off all devices. turn on STB wait a minute or so, then power on the router, and then power on your PC.

ntl assigns an different IP to different Mac addresses but you need to power off/on STB or cablemodem to get it to work.

And is it possible to remove a cloned MAC address ?

I cloned the mac address of my PC and it was not necessary :p
And now, I'd like my WRT54G (in client mode by satory 4G) not use the cloned mac adress, but only its own mac address.

    Thanks a lot

Check 'Disable' in the clone mac address page
    and press 'Save settings' ?
    Just a hunch...

    Thanks Selzhanik,

But "Disable" is checked and settings are saved (This is the default setting after a restart of the WRT54G).

    Another idea ? :)

Advantage to cloning PC's MAC address

New user of WRT54G v6. Is there any advantage to cloning my PC's MAC address? Also which channel is the best to use? Are these going to help making my system more stable? Had very bad stability (wireless connection on and off constantly) with my previous WRT54GLs.

If you folks have good proven suggestions for gaining stability in connectivity, please share.

    Many thanks in advance.
