Max speed of a WRT54G?

I just hooked my trust old WRT54G up to my new cable modem. I get a consistent 18 MBit when the computer is connected directly to the modem, but the WRT54G can manage only around 10MBit. The 100Mbit link lights are illuminated, I don't think it's a connectivity issue.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm connected via radio or ethernet.

Is 10 Mbit the best I can expect out of this old box?

It doesn't seem like CPU speeds have gone up much at all in the past few years. Mine is 125MHz, new ones all seem to be around 200MHz... I'd hate to buy a new one and find out it maxes out at only 20Mbit.

Anyone else hitting this ceiling? Or is there something wrong with my setup? Thanks.
