Maximum number of connected clients vs performance

I would like to know if there is a way to determine how many clients an access point can handle without going down and still have reasonable performance for normal HTTP usage. Is there a huge difference between manufacturers? Could I go as high as 200 simultaneous users per access point?

    Thank you!

There shouldn't be a hugh difference between manufacturers if they use standard chipsets from companies like Broadcom. The maximum connected clients documented on a Linksys is about 32 - double that if you have an Access Point that supports 802.11a/g standards - half for 802.11b/g, half for 802.11a clients.
