Can anyone recommend a tool for measuring throughput of routers?

I know http://www.ixiacom.com/ has some tools but they are little expensive. Something more conservative on the pricing would help too.

Although it is no longer being updated, AIDA32 has a network bandwidth plugin. From the plugin's description:

"This plugin is designed to measure the performance of TCP/IP networks using the classic HTTP protocol in a master-slave architecture between 2 computers."

Here is an example of the AIDA32 plug in used to measure the throughput of a BEFX41: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13435773
