MiniDLNA not updating files

    hi,

    i'm using tomato-E3000USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-104-Big-VPN.bin on a cisco e3000.

with the media server i have a problem.

i use cifs to mount a windows share in tomato.
the media server uses the cifs as source.
now when i add or delete files it doesnt get updated in the minidlna database.
for an update i always have to do a complete rescan and this takes up to 20 minutes until all files are accessible from the dlna client again.

i've heard that minidnla uses "inotify" to keep its database up to date.

does inotify work with cifs in tomato ?
if not is there a way to make it working ?

i don't have any coding or linux experience.

please help me cause doing a full rescan everytime when i add a file is really annoying.

I've wondered the same thing, and have the same problem. I've just made a habit of initiating a re-scan every time I add/remove content.

Inotify is not possible with CIFS mounts, at least not with current kernel implementation.
You may look for some alternative userspace CIFS implementation, but it will be much slower.

Hmm, I'm personally not using CIFS.. I have a miroSD card inside my RT-N66U mounted with an ext3 partition. Should it work like this? I'l have to test when I get home from work. Maybe I've been doing full rescans for no reason?

    Yes, should work.
    Only in some rare cases.

i think we need some kind of virtual driver which let the linux os think that a cifs mount is a removeable media.

for example under windows u can mount a ramdisk as removebale media or a truecrypt container as removable media, etc.

there are several "feature requests" in minidlna about cifs and inotify but they go back till 06/2012 and nothing happened till now. :(

anybody knows a trick to get inotify working with a share ?

We can mount container file as a local filesystem. But is it comfortable to store any UPnP content in a container file?:)
