i'm interested in logging when i've got an internet connection and when it gets dropped. can I do this with tomato? i've been looking at the last 24hr bandwitch chart but i don't like the fidelity in the chart. something looks suspicious about it because it feels like it's only looking at the last 3-5 hrs instead of last 24 hrs.

maybe "logging" isn't the correct word. but let me back up a bit, i think the reason why the bandwidth chart was only showing the last few hours was because it was reset. I think i read somewhere that this gets cleared out. I wanted to know exactly when and how often my connection was dropping out while I was away. because the chart data was reset I opted to look at IRC, which would tell me every 5 minutes or so that it was connected, disconnected, or trying to connect. I was hoping tomato had something like that. I know tomato does have some logging features but when I looked at the log it was wierd. I didn't understand what was being displayed and the dates were Dec 31 and today's date. nothing in between.

Start learning to read your router's Log. It has valuable information for you.

Look for "pppoe". Turn on PPPoE logging, if necessary.

Consider revealing your setup, including stating which device(s) do PPPoE.
