Mounting SD card in 3G USB modem

Posted this question here but didn't get any responses, hoping someone can help. Is it something special about the way the SD card is mounted by the USB stick, or a Tomato-related problem?:

Has anyone using a 3G modem successfully mounted a micro-SD card that you can put in the modem? I'd like to use it to store bandwidth stats and some binaries. I have Huawei E173 and have put a FAT-formatted 2GB micro-SD card in it. On my laptop it just mounts as mass-storage. On the router's USB support page it is listed as "HUAWEI SD Storage". I have Automount box ticked, but it shows up as unmounted. When I click "Mount" I get a pop-up warning saying "Failed to mount. Verify the device is plugged in, and try again." Any ideas? Am running " Tomato Firmware 1.28.0905 MIPSR2-079V K26 USB Mega-VPN"

Just to update on this - I switched from Shibby's Mega-VPN build to the latest (082) BT-VPN build, which contains the CIFS module. Now the micro-SD card in the modem is mounting fine and I am using it to save bandwidth stats to and run some binaries from.
