My WRT54G v1.0 bit the dust: Suggestions?

My WRT54G 1.0 that I brought out to the middle east with me died horribly in Bahrain's frequent power-spikes despite being surge protected (melty: ripped through the protector and the router and fortunately melted the cable connector before it hit my computer).

Now I'm stuck out here without a router. The local stores only sell ADSL modems and modem/router combos except for this one store that sells US Robotics modems. The only router they have that's a solo model is a USR5461. Until I get back to the States in a few months I'm going to have to deal with this router. P2P (limited) and some gaming are the most stressful tasks it'll be presented with. I read on another forum that one of the open source projects might work on it but they weren't sure if the model had enough flash/nvram to load it on.

    1) Suggestions, advice, and recommendations?

    2) Does anyone have experiece with US Robotics routers, capabilites, how they compare to Linksys machines, range, stability, and whether or not there are any 3rd party bios flash's available?

    3) When I get back in about 5 months, what routers would ya'll recommend (I've heard about the crappy new v5's for Linksys)?

See if a new power supply works with your router ... might be what the doc ordered.

You Mis-understand: the motherboard is slagged and so are most of the internals of the router.
