My WRT54GS keeps disconnecting the LAN computers

Hi there, after reading about the WRT54GS, I got myself a new one (ver 1.0, FW 2.07.1) and I'm installing it this week-end to remplace my old PureData router/switch. I'm using a SpeedStream 5200 DSL Modem and Bell Sympatico DSL.

When trying to configure via LAN using a WinXP CPU I get repeated messages, sometimes 2 per 10 seconds, about the LAN interface going down, then back up, and the resulting timeouts in Internet Explorer.

I managed put my PPoE config in and got a connection, though it was plagued with disconnects on the wired side (LAN) of the router. Almost at every web page I get a disconnect. MTU is 1492.

After that I tried to see if the problem was with the DSL modem so I unplugged the DSL modem, resetted the WRT and my usual router config but the problem remains. I tried using my Mac G4 to configure the WRT but to no avail.

Just tried deactivating DHCP on the WRT and using plain static(192.168.0.101) but still disconnects me about every 1-2 minutes.

Any suggestions on a course of action? I was thinking of flashing the router, but was afraid the repeated disconnections might corrupt the process. I reverted to my old router for the time being.

    Thanks for your kind help,

I exchanged the bad WRT and the new one works very well without any of the above problems. Cool :)
