    I have a WRT54Gv4 and i flashed it to DD-WRT v23 SP1.

It seems very unstable as soon as I try doing some p2p downloads. By unstable I mean I can't route to the internet and when I ping my router it is very inconsistent.

    I followed this guide: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WRT54G_v4_Installation_Tutorial

under "Access Restrictions" there's a box named "Catch all P2P Protocols". Should have that checked?

    Another question:

Why did the guide instruct me to use the dd-wrt.v23_generic.bin firmware as opposed to the dd-wrt.v23_wrt54g.bin one?

Your problem with the P2P download is that you don't have a high enough maximum IP connections setting, I believe. Goto the administration tab and all the way at the bottom there should be a setting for IP Filter settings(adjust these for p2p), you should prolly do what it says. Personally I use the maximum. The reason your router has inconsistant pings is because all of its connections are being used. So your ping basically fights for a slot. it kinda works the same when you can't download anything because you have saturated your upstream bandwidth. Toodles
