I know T1,DSL Cable very well. and do lot of truble shooting on network issues, but no VPN network. This is my first time try to learn how to setup vpn at my home office with Linksys WRV54G VPN Router. Really need someone to help me.

Task: allow myself to access my home office server from anywhere via PPTP with Windows XP self clinet software.

    Office:Fix IP Address: 67.161.XX.xyz
    IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.254.0
    Gateway: 67.161.XX.XX
    Domain Name Server: 68.87.XX.178, 68.87.XX.XX

Can anyone give me a Sample Configuration?

    Thanks very much!

    Welcome to the party!

Hate to be the guy to tell you the bar is out of Bourbon, but, the WRV54G does not support the windows vpn client because it doesn't pass protocol 47 (GRE). In order for you to connect, you'll either have to use quickvpn or a third party client such as greenbow vpn or ssh sentinel.

Check out this link to get started on quickvpn:

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/portal/forums/showthread.php?t=42553

If you're interested in a free copy of ssh sentinel you can get it from the following link:

    http://ftp.up.ac.za/pub/linux/ssh/pub/sentinel/

This link will give you detailed guidance in setting up ssh sentinel:

I generally use greenbow vpn; here's a link to show you how to set up greenbow if you go in that direction:

Thanks a lot. looks like only Cisco firewall support windows VPN client software.

I'm assuming when you say "cisco firewall," you're talking about the "cisco pix" series. The linksys routers I know off the top of my head that pass protocol 47 (GRE) to support the windows vpn client are the following:

    1) RV042
    2) RV082
    3) WRV200

At one point and time, someone had posted in the forum a way to get the WRV54G to pass GRE, but I don't recall where that post is; I personally couldn't get it to work, but that doesn't mean someone else hasn't had any luck with it :)

I tried to use Quickvpn v.1.04 from here and wrv54g firmware v2.39 from linksys offical website. i got following error:

the quickvpn stop on "verifying network " for while then popup "The remote gateway is not responding. You will now be disconnected, please try again later."

all i done was follow the the link above to setup wrv54g and i use windows XP remot desktop to login my client's windows 2003 and also tried to login to outside xp desktop and install quickvpn to connect back to my home office.

I found some posts about this issue in linksys.com, but no result.

    any idea, Thanks!

Just to let you know, I edited your post because even then you edited the last octet of your WAN IP address, the gateway was still fully listed, to include your DNS server information :)

Now, "if" you loaded the new linksys firmware on your router, did you set the router back to "factory default" was the firmware had finished uploading?

    Hey Doc,

I can't access the link that you posted.

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/portal/fo...ad.php?t=42553

I am trying to configure the Linksys WRV54G for VPN and I get the same errors that were mentioned above. >>the quickvpn stop on "verifying network " for while then popup "The remote gateway is not responding. You will now be disconnected, please try again later."<<

I am running firmware version 2.39, should I be downgrading to version 2.36?
