I have a terayon 715 cable modem which is using a cat5e cable to connect to my linksys 4 port cable/dsl router switch. I plugged the cat 5e cable from the modem to the internet port in the router and the green light goes on. I also plugged my computer into the router in port 1 with a cat 5e cable and the green light comes on letting me know that i am connected to the router. When i am running the cd though for setup and install it goes smoothly until the end where it says testing internet connection through router. that is where it says it cannot access the internet please unplug your modem and turn it back on. i have done that 3 times and it still is giving me a problem. Can anyone help me?

    turn off cablemodem and router.

power up Cablemodem. wait until lights are constant (SYNC and RDY)

now power on the router. this usually fixes the issue.

try resetting the router back to factory defaults first of all. please tell me how is the ROUTER "asking" you to disconnect the modem?

    software install

you dont have to install any software.. the modem will automatically login to the router... and the workstations will pick up a dhcp addr from the router and your good to go

Logon to your router at http://192.168.1.1/and check connection status. It should look something like this (ignore the Login type on the image):

Some cable modems lock their connections to the MAC Address of the network adapter so you may need to clone the MAC Address of your network card to the router's MAC Address Clone function. You can also force the modem to reset by power on/off cycles, but try leaving it off for longer periods before powering up - I've read it can take up to 30 minutes.
