I have one WRT54GL and one WRT54GS V4, both with dd-wrt v23. I would like to build a simple vpn-connection (box to box), without additional software on the pc. This connection will not be in permanent use, but activated from time to time.

Are there any helpful suggestions for completing this task without horror? :)

Is dd-wrt the right software for this job?

    thx

Easy to do and DD-WRT v23 is great for this. The instructions to set up a PPTP VPN are on the DD-WRT WIKI. Good Luck.

    Thank you! :thumb:
Can PPTP VPN set up as server on both boxes?

    Security

Is a PPTP VPN secure enough?

One should be server, one client. I think it is secure enough. This depends allot on your access rules and pass code. Encryption should be very difficult and would require both inside knowledge of your network as well as a good reason to go to such extreme measures.

Why PPTP when it is not as secure as IPSec? The WRT54G does not have enough horsepower? Licensing issues? Complexity and compatibility problems? All of the above?
