Hi guys. I just registered so I could get some help with this... can't find the answers anywhere else and this site is as close as I've gotten. I already read through this thread:

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47118

However my equipment doesn't have the same GUI options. So let me tell you what I have and what I'm trying to do, and let you guys tell me if I have the right equipment or not.

I have a WRT54G (version 8, updated to v8.00.6) in my bedroom with a desktop and laptop (my personal PCs).

In my living room I have a Popcorn Hour (www.popcornhour.com) and another laptop which is for an ebay biz I have (incedentally, I sell RAM for laptops... semi-shameless plug: shop.ebay.com/merchant/sbc_memory and I do sell bulk outside of Ebay if anyone's interested) ... but both devices in the living room have poor connectivity because this is an old brick house and the two rooms are on opposite sides of the house.

I figured the cheapest way to resolve this was to buy a used Linksys off craigslist and set it up in my kitchen as a repeater. I picked up a WRK54G (version 1, can't upgrade firmware past v1.52). I googled and found a few decent threads but the one linked above seemed to be the best. Like I said, my GUI doesn't list the same options, so I don't know what to do. I'm a CCNA so I'm not totally uncomfortable with using 3rd party firmware on these things, but from what I've read on here it sounds like the command line is like UNIX, not like a Cisco IOS. I've got zero experience with any of the UNIX flavors, so if that's the case I'd really like to stick with the GUI if possible. UNIX is something I've thought about learning more about, but there are only 24 hours in the day and I'm up to my ears in projects already... so if making this hardware work would take 40 hrs of work I'd rather put the router I just got back up on craigslist and get some other hardware that'll let me do this with less hassle.

Any guidance you guys can provide is appreciated :)
