    Does anyone know if there is a major difference in video display when using a DVI vs. VGA capable monitor/card?

    The image is supposed to be much sharper and shimmer less.

    VGA Cable: Video Card --->Digital--->Analog-->Digital--->LCD

    DVI Cable: Video Card --->Digital--->LCD

    Analog is lossy so converting back an forth will always net you some loss in quality.

    DVI is really only important with LCD displays, also with an LCD make sure you only run at the native resolution of the display, anything else will not look sharp.

    Thanks..The reason I am asking is because I currently have an ATI card with both DVI and VGA connectors and a DEll 18 inch flat panel that has both connectors on it. I would like to upgrade the ATI card but unless I want to spend about $400.00 plus get a bigger power supply to get a card with a DVI connector I am going to have to settle on something else I guess.

    Thanks Again

    There are a large number of cards with DVI connectors, what do you have now and what where you planning to upgrade to?

    I currently have an ATI Radeon All in Wonder 9000.

    I have been looking at either the Vision Tech xtasy9600xt/256mb ddr

    or

    ATI radeon 9800.

    I have not really heard anything good or bad about VisionTek so not sure about thate one.
