Netgear WNR3500L nat/wan port speed?

when i heard about tomato coming to this (gbit switch) model, i instantly bought one.

i started doing NAT speed tests using a laptop and my desktop (both equipped with gbit nics) and ended up getting top speeds of 240mbit/s (original netgear firmware) and 110mbit/s (dd-wrt initial flash firmware) using my test setup.

as i tried flashing my own compile of teddy_bear's sources, i unfortunately bricked the thing. i rma'd it, just today got the new one delivered and instantly tried to reproduce my results, however now i'm somewhat baffled as i can't seem to surpass 10MByte/s on any of the three firmwares (they all yield similar speeds, load (at least under dd-wrt doesn't seem to exceed 0.60).

is it possible that there are two different versions out there, one of which has a 100mbit wan port and one that has a gbit wan port? is there a (software) way of finding out for sure what speed the wan port has?
