This maybe a stupid question but I log into my second computer which is running XP pro using a Linksys router (both PC’s hardwired) with no problems for a few months now, all of sudden today I'm asked for a username and password to gain access to the second computer, I have not changed the “using simple file sharing†nor have I deleted or changed any account details any ideas.

Computers for being so intelligent are really rather stupid and only do what they are told too. Lots of ways to argue this but ultimately it comes down to something changed. I want to say there is a setting in xp under users that says something like "change the way users log in". If changed to username and password you will have to authenticate, or you can just click and log in.

Hi thanks for the reply yes I know what you mean, but this is not on start-up but logging in from another computer (file sharing) I understand that something has changed but what that is the problem
Problem sorted deleted guest and then reinstalled guest
