I just bought the WRT54G router and the WPC54G adapter card for my laptop. I have my desktop hardwired to the new router and have installed the software and adapter card in my laptop. I cannot seem to get the WEP set.
I want to set the SSID and the then the WEP to 128. Where do I get the WEP key? What is a Hex digits?

Are there already upgrades that I need to download for this router? It is the version 5.

Normally you should be able to enter the key for WEP using a Passphrase (normal text that gets automatically turned into the key so that you don't have to remember the 26 hex digits).

On the WRT it is in the Wireless/Security page of the web interface.
For the WPC54G adapter, check the user guide, you should be able to set a profile with the SSID and Paasphrase that you used on the WRT.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexadecimal

"In mathematics and computer science, hexadecimal, or simply hex, is a numeral system with a radix or base of 16 usually written using the symbols 0–9 and A–F or a–f. "

Roger that. I will go back and check the router settings. I don't think I did the pass phrase and wep on it firts. I tried setting it in the adapter settings on the laptop and when I would type in a passphrase I did notice it was generating a key.
