I'm starting to get really P**sed. I have tried just about all that has gone on in this forum to sort this problem of the connection dropping when using torrents. Thought LinkSys was on the way to fixing this with the new firmware.....My arse!!

Does anyone have there setup config/backup files that i could try with Hyper or DD-Wrt, or any solution to this extremly crap situation.

Sorry for ranting but I'm sick and tired of having to constantly play with this router to get it to hold a connection

Well I guess Linksys became as bad as microsoft, when it comes to fix software issues. I was told the same thing that bittorrent maybe able to run on the new firmware. Well It dont work.

    Confirm

Just tho check, I'm running Azureus, on 1mb line. Done all the setup and changed startup script. My dissconnection only happens if I'm D/l a popular torrent with plenty of seeds & Peers. My little ballon pops up down the right corner say 'internet connection' if i double click it shows the connection time......Does this still mean the router has dissconnected? Or is this a problem with XP.

Evil417 is this the same case wit you? Maybe we can sort this out between us.

disable 802.1 authentication in WINDOWS XP

Have you tried disabling 802.1x authentication on your computer's NIC? (in XP it is under the advanced tab under the wireless tab then the authentication tab).

It fixed a lot of these types of problems for me. Wireless drop offs fixed also.

    Please test and post.

    Test thingy

I'll give it a go when I get home.

What is connected to your Linksys??

I have my PC Hardwired, An Xbox hard wired And another Xbox over wireless.

The wireless seems slow when streaming movies and music but fast when playing online games between the two Xbox's and the internet.

Is your PC that is running Torrents hard wired or wireless??

Cheers. Hope we can crack this!!

I have had link stability problems with both wired and non-wired clients.

    disabling 802.X authentication cured it.

Whether you use a wireless config software other than Windows XP or not has nothing to do with the 802.1X auth setting. It is an adapter/network specific setting, not a wireless specific setting. Most of the alternative configuration software out there (linksys included) pass through portions of the settings to those of windows to configure the wireless connection anyway.

    In Windows XP:

    For hardwired

Check under Properties of Network Places ->> Properties of Adapter ->> Authentication ->> Uncheck 802.1X authentication for this network

    For wireless

Check under properties of Network Places ->> Properties of Adapter ->> Wireless Networks ->> Select the Preffered network ->> Authentication ->> Uncheck 802.1X Authentication for this network

Wireless stability definitely improved by disabling this on the computer side. I have no problems transfering Large files over 12MB over wireless either.

It is also worth noting that (in DD-WRT atleast) there is an 802.1X setting. Mine is ON (as it seems to be defualted to this) but maybe you can also try turning it off.

Just make sure you guys make ***1*** change at a time, retest for the problem. Otherwise we won't know what fixes it... (I know this is obvious to most, but it is worth mentioning for the n00bs out there).

    Thanks and good luck!

Nope, Cant find it. Does it have to deal with the security features? Because My network is totaly unsecure. The encripiton messes up my connection so I dont use it.

    Dont seem to work

I disabled 802.1x authentication on my computer's NIC.

    Reset the computer,

    Reset the Router

    Reset the modem

Than ran Azureus as shown on the piccy, I get dissconnected after 5 mins? Total of 3.8% then the little ballon in the corner pops up saying that I'm connected again. Is this a windows problem or still the router? I have tried.....

    HyperWRT_2.0_G.zip

    dd-wrt.v22-prefinal3.2.zip

    WRT54GV3.0_3.03.6_US_code.zip

    WRT54GV3.1_4.00.7_US_code.zip

The two non standerd FW with the startup script.............

    echo "600 1800 120 60 120 120 10 60 30 120" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_tcp_timeouts

"Just make sure you guys make ***1*** change at a time, retest for the problem. Otherwise we won't know what fixes it... (I know this is obvious to most, but it is worth mentioning for the n00bs out there). "

This has been the story of my life since getting this router.

But I'm sure betwwen us we'll crack it!!!

    Yippeee

The first torrent must of been odd, ran thro' 2 100mb ish files, no problem, running a 4gb torrent now while seeding others, been connected for around 2 hours now. I'm gonna run over night just to test.

Can someone else confirm this test to prove its ok??

    The results could help many.

    Thanks dmulk!!

Re: disable 802.1 authentication in WINDOWS XP

Note that WPA requires 802.1x, so be sure to disable it before doing this.

Also, try patching your TCPIP.SYS file if you are using Windows XP SP2.

There is also another post that tells you how to increase your maximum connections with the WRT54G through Telnet.

    Patching

    EvID4226Patch223d-en.zip

Wareagle can you tell me more about what and how this patch helps, just want to understand before I go ahead with it.

I'll have a read about Telnet myself, any helpful links would be great as I know nothing on it.

    Cheers for you help!!

Still no disconnection!! 5h 19m so far!!

    info

    Patch info

Check the link for a nice little article explaining the patch effect. Not sure as this effects me as I don't have any recent warnings for half opened ports as described.

    Buuger

    4 days!!!!

Thats all it's lasted. 4 Days and the router locked up. Not had chance to test big transfers or anything, but torrent has been running almost constant. Gone back to HyperWRT but ensure the authentification is off and hopefullt all will be good. Please post your results if you have had longer up time!!
