    v23b2 17-11-05 still hangs on "erase nvram;reboot"

Updated from 15-11-05 mini --> 17-11-05 mini WRT54Gv4.0 still has the same problem as in the first report.

BugTracker # 170 this was not fixed in 17-11-05

    1. reboots OK after the Update by Gui.
    2. Wait for WRT54G to recover.
    3. Restored to Defaults off Gui, reboots OK
    4. mtd erase nvram;reboot the WRT54G deader than dicks hat band!
a hard reset does not work, only power off and power on,
    will recover the WRT54Gv4.0

    5. Tried just a reboot from shell , rebooted OK

Updated from 15-11-05 std --> 17-11-05 std WRT54GSv2.1 still has the same problem as in the first report.

BugTracker # 170 this was not fixed in 17-11-05

    6. Tried erase nvram it says it erased, then did a reboot, it's dead.
    7. Tried mtd erase nvram;reboot still hangs. Bummer!

Updated from 16-11-05 std --> 17-11-05 std WRT54GSv1.0 has the same problem .

Updated from 16-11-05 mini --> 17-11-05 mini WRT54Gv4.0 has the same problem .

Did a long hardware reset on all WRT54G(S) to make sure the images did not have any CRC faults, all recoverd OK after long hardware resets.

The router entry in '/tmp/hosts' gets corrupted with "random" data:

    ~ # cat /tmp/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    192.168.1.1 /05)
    192.168.1.100 host1
    192.168.1.75 host2
    192.168.1.50 host3

    [I edited this msg]

I see that 192.168.1.1 is your router -- the other ones look ok to me.

I'm still running 11/11 - but on mine, the router name shows garbage at times - (/etc/hosts and related, when I do an nslookup on my PC or the router or similar command, which shows the DNSes hostname, such as using pingplotter on my PC)....

When my router is reset by a config change, sometimes the router name is ok - but when I my router resets for some set up change I make, it sometimes gets corrupted. I make another change and it's fine again. My router was called "ull" (like Null, without an N) in all those places and now that I changed my DHCP reservation IP address, the router is now "G" .

Also, the machine I have with a DHCP reservation, is listed 13 times in /etc/hosts on the router (again I'm currently using 11/11).
When I changed my IP reservation, it removed those and put 2 lines of the new IP address.

Ticket 176 has this issue. You can add notes to it, as appropriate (eg, if it still happens in the Nov 17 beta).

    I'm not getting that with today's build -- 17/11/05.

The original author will have to answer if he's really talking about the Nov 17 build --- but with the Nov 11 build, it doesn't always get corrupted. When I make changes to the router config (even changing the time zone), it seems to corrupt or un-corrupt the router name every few times.

Yes, i'm running the 17/11 build (mini-version) on WRT54G v3.1. I upgraded to that build since I saw it on the 16/11 build too. I was previously running the 29/09 build. When I start from scratch (i.e. reset to Factory defaults) everything is fine. But when I start configuring my router it starts to put "garbage" in the router name in '/tmp/hosts'. It is never the same "garbage", once I had one of my static computers MAC-address as the name of the router.

Another thing I noticed in the 17/11 build compared to the old 26/9 build is that the router reboots when saving certain settings. This never happened in the old build. Is this really needed?

I tried the v23b2 11/18/05 update on my supposed v2.0 (CGN3xxx) and it worked fine until after about 30min, of being idle with no internet traffic, then it lost connectivity with all the pc's connected to it (wired and wireless) until I recycled power. The weird thing about the v2.0 router I have, is it seems to have the SES button/LED installed and started semi-working with the installation of the newest DD-WRT and Hyper-WRT firmwares. I didn't think that V2.0 Serial Number CGN3xxx were supposed to have this feature? Maybe this has something to do with the loss of connectivity. The latest 11/18/05 version of Hyper-WRT has been working fine. I'd rather use the DD-WRT though.

My gs ver 2 is doing the same thing (losing connectivity to both wired and wireless after some period of use--but usually more like a day than 30 minutes.) Power cycle makes it work again. When this happens, both the backup and firmware update tabs in the administration menu become all white and cannot be selected.

And yes, I did do a 30 second reset prior to installing the 18-11-05 version and after it was installed (standard version by the way.)
