    Hello Everyone

I am newbie to this Forum. Tks to the Moderators and all for accepting my membership.

I need to buy a new Router. I dont have any previous experience with a Router. This is going to be my first Router. I want to use it for DSL connection, networking to use 2 more computers plus connection to a Dreambox Satellite receiver for CS.

I have got a package with the DSL connection, who provide an US Robotic 9108A router. I will get a price reduction if I dont purchase the US Robotic. I have read a lot of Linksys and its stability.

I need the assistance from our friends here to help me decide:

    1) Go in for the US Robotic 9108A which is with the package?
    2) Buy a Linksys Router (I will get a small reduction if I dont buy the USRobotic).
    3) If I decide to buy a Linksys - which model is good and stable.

Tks in advance for the assistance.

    Kind Rgds

Well one way or another you are going to need an adsl modem. I am not sure if linksys makes any, once the modem is taken care of depending on the features you want or need is going to dictate what is going to be the most cost effective router for you. Doing a quick check it appears linksys does offer an adsl modem/router, i have not used it so i cant say how well it works but i would guess that someone has.

As a router yes thats a fine choice, but your will still need an adsl modem to get the signal from your internet provider. The WRT54GL will not understand the signal sent from the provider by itself.

That my friend is a question i cannot help with. I have not used dsl since the late 90's so i dont follow modems much anymore. Doing a quick search i know linksys offers an adsl modem but i cannot find any offering that does wireless. Maybe someone else will jump in here with a good suggestion.

    Hi supermario,

you can go for a AVM Fritzbox they combine an ADSL modem and router functionallity. Also i think there are some Netgear products witch can do this.
Or you look for a seperate ADSL modem in combination with a Linksys WRT54GL router (fantastic router). Thats the way i do it (see signature)
    Hope this helps a bit.

    Hi der_kief

Tks for your reply. As mentioned initially I am getting as a packaged deal a US Robotic Router 9108A which I suppose will do the modem + router job. But to my bad luck they dont have any support like Linksys.

    Any suggest on USR 9108A?

Any suggestion will be high appreciated.

    Kind Rgds
