I am new to linksysinfo and the wrv200. I have enjoyed ny WRT54G for years and wanted a vpn solution. I know there are some threads out there for this device but if figured what the hey...

I am sure I will encounter many hicups but right now my client keeps getting dropped. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone used the Cisco VPN client (I have 4.0.3d) to connect to the wrv200?

Also, one of the reasons I wanted to use a vpn is to be able to remotely use WOL to turn on my server. I cant see what IP address my client gets when connecting to the vpn and how I would handle the braodcast address. Has anyone had experience with this?

I am talking about the VPN client.

Another issue is DNS. I am running DNS on my network and coded it into the wrv200 as the first dns server and made the second entry an external dns server. When I connect to the vpn, I can connect to my server using rdp by IP address but not by host name. Any solutions?

    Win XP firewall

Are there any ports that need to be opened on the win xp firewall to use te quick vpn client well? It seemed to connect but not well until I disabled the xp firewall. I would rather open the proper ports than disable.

QuickVPN uses 443 or 60443 into the WRV200

Try using the latest QuickVPN v1.0.40

Also you should have read one of the findings of the WRV is the problem with VPN and using Automatically assigned IP for the WAN.

you need to set the WAN as a Static IP address if possible.

    New QuickVPN

Thank you for that. I will open those ports. I d/l'd the newer client. Is the QuickVPN the only client? Also, I have a cable modem and get a DHCP address from my provider. I have started to read thru the posts in the other forum. I do appreciate your help. Have you read that the firmware update address the DHCP WAN setup issue?

there are others, but most you pay for. The WRV200 does not support a PPTP Server (as yet) but if it ever did you could use the windows PPTP client. and if your lucky you cold try the IPSec Windows VPN setup here:http://www.linksysinfo.co.uk/routerworld/

you will be very lucky if you get it to work. most dont.

    no where is this?

    VPN Connection dropped every hour

As you stated, I will post these here. I do have several issues that I would greatly appreciate yours (or anyones) insight on. My connection drops every hour, right at the 60 minute mark. I thought you were aksing about settings on the VPN device itself. I dont see on the QuickVPN client how to tweak any settings. If were not asking for settings in the VPN, what would i set in the client?

Just to let you know since you are a newbie...

    VPN Client Access
This is for LInksys QuivkVPN clients ONLY. no other VPN client software is compatable with this setting.

    VPN Passthrough
This allows the IPSec, PPTP and L2TP passthrough for clients and other VPN routers BEHIND the WRV200

    IPSec VPN
This is for VPN Endpoint to Endpoint (VPN Router to VPN Router) or connectivity for VPN Clients using other forms of Software(Not QuickVPN) that support IPSec VPN

    VPN Summary
Self-explanatory. Status of the VPN Tunnels and VPN log access.

You will only need the VPN Client Access Page for your QuickVPN Clients.

    Other Clients

Thank you, this is useful info. Would you be able to help configure the Cisco client to onnect to this device? Is there any documentation on this?

I am not aware of whether or not the cisco client would work with this or not, as I have never used it. if the Cisco client works on other linksys VPN devices, I would guess then it would work on the WRV200.

The person who knows about this would be eric_stewart. He may check in soon and be able to shed some light on this...

Nope. Won't work. Someone asked the same question with respect in another thread: http://www.linksysinfo.org/portal/forums/showthread.php?t=47892

The Cisco VPN Client will not work since it uses Cisco-proprietary "mode configuration" in IKE Phase I to inform the client of its parameters (IP, DNS, WINS, etc.). Short answer is that it will work with only Cisco VPN devices which support it.
