Hi Bill, the first build that I installed over the original firmware was tomato-E4200USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.9007MIPSR2_RAF-VPN-NOCAT.bin from Victek which didn't work (see my first post). I mentioned the results of the installation of the Toastman builds to indicate that the problem occurs on other builds to and is not Victek specific. Maybe a problem with the kernel? No one experienced similar problems? br Harry
No problems similar to yours, the only trouble I saw the feature on and off wifi that would crash the next day,whe neverI restart myE4200.......
Let me remind you the forum language is English and that failure to comply will result in users being removed from the foum. Toxic - Forum Administrator.
Hello Victek, I installed 1.28.9007 for E4200. Everything works great, no problem. I seem to be missing "IP/mac bw limiter" in my GUI and I pretty sure that I did the 30-30-30 reset after installing firmware. Is it something that was intentionally removed to be added later OR Am I not looking at the right place? It used to be beneath QOS section. Thanks for all the hardwork. It is very well appreciated.
Hi, I'm using E4200 with Tomato RAF 1.28.9007. I used my USB hard drive on version 1.28.9006. But after I flashed to 1.28.9007, it does not recognise any USB drives. There're no options in menu "USB and NAS > USB Support", but 9006 has some options. How can I fix this problem? thx. I attached two pictures about differences between 9006 and 9007 USB menu. (upper one is 9006, lower one is 9007)
I think you don't do a: "Erase all data in NVRAM memmory (thorough)", test and see if that helps. Don't use backup from previous builds.
I have already tried, but it does not help for me. "Erase all data in NVRAM memory (through)" or "Command : nvram erase" or "30-30-30 reset", all of them failed :-(
Installed 9007 on my new E4200...so far I'm very happy. 5GHz seems to work well...running both my MBP and iPad 2 off 5 GHz network with no problems whatsoever. iPhone 4 "sees" 2.4 N-mode network, but will not connect. I have to drop it down to G-mode to get it to connect. Any ideas why? Also, how well does OpenVPN run on this build?
I have an Asus RT-N16 currently with RAF1.28.8903 MIPSR2_RAF K26 USB VPN. It has been working fine but at this point I'm wondering if I should update it to the latest build. I don't require the captive portal.
What version of openssl is compiled with the RT-N16 (Kernel-2.6.22. MIPSR2) firmware? Is it the same as the version with TomatoUSB (openssl 1.0.0b)? Thanks
Hello, I upgraded from another thread of Tomato to this Victek on E3000 performing erase nvram upon upgrade and manually reconfiguring: Tomato Firmware RAF1.28.9007 MIPSR2_RAF K26 USB VPN-NOCAT Thank you to all the developers providing their support!!!! Had some issues that have mostly resolved (I'll put some tips below). Two strange issues remain: 1. No matter what I do, for the 2.4Ghz wireless, under Advanced Wireless the WMM value stays as Enable as opposed to Auto*(default). What can I do, or is there other setting might be preventing it from Saving as Auto* ? 2. IF on the 2.4Ghz wireless, I use Wireless Network Mode = Auto or Mode =N, about half of my six wireless N devices drop to 4mbps on speedtest.net (almost seems as if some QOS kicks in). The others are fine. IF however, I put Mode= G only or Mixed B/G, these 'slower' devices jump to about 14Mbps. For those that work in Auto or N mode, they are about 24Mbps, and drop to about 15mbps if in G or B/G. WHAT ideas do you have please? EDIT-ADD: I have tried a myriad of settings to no avail trying to get N (or Auto) to be equal to or better than G only mode. TOshiba Satellite A665 -S6065 using REaltek 8191SE v2020.4.620.2011 6/20/2011 drivers. Other tidbits I have observed: 1. Wii (Nintendo box) requires latest firmware to work with WPA/WPA2. ALSO, even with latest firmware, the Basic Rate must be 1-2Mbps (not Auto or All). Luckily, this seems to not affect network bandwith. 2. I don't know why, but Regulatory Mode = 802.11h provides a stronger signal at distance than Off value. I used the inSSIDer tool various times to confirm this. 3. Lastly, I have played with Tx Power and have observed benefit from putting the value up to 280mW or 300mW despite what others have said that 60mW is max. Again, I have observed about a 7db difference between a value of 60 and 280-300 (which makes sense as you get 3db every time you double. 4. I had trouble with the DHCP / DNS dying each night. I believe the trouble was that each time I restarted the router, it was rebuilding the large Media Server db on my attached USB hard-drive for many hours. Then in the middle of it rebuiding my db, I had some remote backups running on a laptop that was also trying to scan the USB hard drive and update appropriately. Ultimately this was crashing. I subsequently turned OFF the Scan at Startup, and have rebuilt the db and things have become stable and my backup runs nightly. Thanks for any help and insights!!! -Guy gschlact
Thank you Toastman and the same wishes for all the fellows in linksysinfo.org. I hope that health (first and the most important), job (just to eat and buy some router) and love (then your family will understand why we expend hours and hours looking one screen with strange wording and resetting our internet connection) will reach all of you in 2012!!! Best Regards to all!
Guys, can you post discussions on wireless speeds in the dedicated thread where this may eventually result in some conclusions, and free up Victek's thread a little? http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/wireless-driver-issues-settings-for-n-speeds.36109/ Thanks! Toastman Forum Moderator
Hello, I changed the static ips after deleting few entries, but the laptop still shows as a previous device name that the ip had before or sometimes ip conflict. There must be some cache that might have to clear I guess. Any idea? Thanks
New Release for RT-N16, E2000, E3000, E4200 (v1). Tomato RAF 1.28.9008. Changelog: Additionally to Toastman Version, Busybox 1.20.4 (updated).
Sorry, mistake, I'm now trying E3200, just got it yesterday and upgrade with Tomato shows 'Upgrade Fail'. I need to update ID type for the new model....
Some of you know the header signature for e3200? i.e. header for e3000 is 0x4E583136 ... what's for e3200? the header is checked when 'Firmware Upgrade' button is pressed and should be changed in ../rc/init.c and ../rc/mtd.c
Victek, do you have an ETA for the status of the website? I want to test the firmware and I have time right now but I may go do something else if it's going to be ready later tonight.
Already updated the new version in TomatoRAF page...for your router this is the line.. Tomato RAF 1.28.9008.. Specific version for E4200, VLAN + USB + Extended Sysinfo + VPN + Captive Portal. Updated Feb 15. 2012.
Yes but...the website is down edit: downloading... edit2: testing it on a E2000 PS For the Wiki: Per-IP Traffic Stats ? NFS ? Guest SSID ?
Per-IP Traffic Stats = Status of Traffic per each IP NFS = Network File System Guest SSID = An additional wireless SSID isolated (or not) from the local network the router operates. The term 'guest' points to isolated network from other devices connected to the router.
Victek, I was asking if these features are on your mod because I have to update the Wiki. Testing it on a E2000. edit: NFS Server not NFS. The 9008 doesn't have it, just checked. Wikipedia page updated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato_(firmware)#Feature_comparison
Opsss, yes, indeed, included .. but let me say that the term 'Guest SSID' has to be configured careful, if user follows the 'normal' procedure (bounding to LAN) then the 'Guest' can see the LAN (and devices) too...
Just flashed 9008 on the main E4200. Let's begin the test! edit: Sorry flashed Shibby 083V back almost right away. After you setup the wl0.1 and save on the Basic page the mod changes and messes all the Basic page information and configuration. This first simple test was enough for me. I need a stable and tested one for business. Shibby 083V is the most stable for now.
This surged when you don't erase nvram, I had same problem first time ... test but using erase all NVRAM .. in configuration. Be patient ... :J
I will keep testing on the E2000. I always erase the NVRAM (first lesson you learn from Tomato eh?!). Thanks again.
Well, I think we suggested before you joined this forum, right?, please erase again, I had the same behavior you mentioned and solved with a second nvram erase from administration/configuration... it's something I have to investigate. By the way, shibby firmware have virtual SSID's? I don't see it in source code...
Sorry about that Victek, I've tested it again on the E4200v1 just because...erased three times and tried again for three times, the Guest SSID doesn't even broadcast/show on my devices. Shibby doesn't have Guest SSID yet. It's not a feature that I need but if it's there I want it to work.
Can you clarify what is different from this 9008 vs the 9007 version that I'm currently running? I'll update if it's going to get me better performance in my E3000.
9008 it's another branch of Tomato, it's unstable and buggy at the moment. I recommend you to stay with 9007 released in October 2011 (more stable). I'll swap 9008 release in TomatoRAF repository as Beta version, meanwhile stay with 9007 release (solid rock). Thanks
Hi eahm, question, did you follow these steps when you enabled Guest SSID? Just to be sure, then.... I can reproduce your problem. I did in the 'hippy way' on my E4200 and I got the error you said, then I followed the user manual created by Augusto and the problem is gone. http://code.google.com/p/tomato-sdhc-vlan/wiki/MultiSSIDHOWTOForE3000
I will try these exact steps later tonight, if you have tested it and it works, I'm sure I'm the one doing something wrong. Thanks. edit: Did you already change the 9008? I can't find it even on the repo.
DD-WRT has the e3200 listed as "3200" so try 0x30303233 Now that you are back can you help Shibby with the e1000v2/v2.1 http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.ph...mware-for-linksys-e1000-v2-1-will-help.35630/
Thanks tvlz, I saw also switch chip is a cheaper version of E3000 ... BTW, I answer already at your request, waiting CFE... Edit, I found in your link all info, enough, thanks.
Ok thanks. I was just wondering if the new version included any updated wireless drivers from Broadcom or anything important like that. I'll stick with what I've got then - thanks
I'm getting a new router tomorrow, so sorry if I'm a bit confused. Is the E3200 not supported yet? It's one of my choices, so if it's not able to run Tomato it will save me the frustration of having to return it, etc. Thanks!
If you need Tomato running in your E3200 tomorrow then the answer is no, if you are patient then buy a E3200. The stock firmware for E3200 is not bad at all. Of course is always better to buy the last model in the market but you can buy an E4200 with better specification than E3200 for a few bucks more .... BTW, Tomato RAF website has been rebuilt, now in 4 languages!!!!
If you look at the Tomato RAF support list models in my page then you can read the right version for RT-N66 (is in the Beta version section) 1.28.9008......trx Thank you!
I have installed, but it's ok only 60KB of NVRAM? Whith other firmware with Tomato look 8MB. Sorry for my english
How many scripts are you running?, As usual and after upgrade a new install and 'if you did a previous nvram erase' the new version will bite only 7-8MB... so.. something is eating your RAM.. look mine... what's your router running?
What about otherAsus variants like RT-N10, RT-N12B1? RouterCPU ArchitectureKernel 2.6Kernel 2.4Kernel 2.6 Editions Asus RT-N12 R2 Yes/Si No No USB Asus RT-N16 R2 Yes No All Asus RT-N66 R2 Yes No Better use 1.28.9008.trx Beta
Do you need it? I think there are version done by Toastman and Shibby, not? I do version that can be tested in my routers...
Hi Victek, I took your advice and got an E4200 (refurb). ;-) Now my question is, which version of your firmware should I use? My previous firmware was the one you supported on the ol' WRT54GS ... what an amazing run that router had — definitely going into the hall of fame. Regards, ~ PE
Download it http://ow.ly/9eBgR and then after you install and before configuring do a Reboot, then configure. Remember, DHCP LAN is not active, so, static DHCP 192.168.1.5, gateway 192.168.1.1 and then enable if you need it.
Changelog is in the beta section in my page, access to victek.is-a-geek.com, select language and go to to Beta releases link, you can see the changes in readme files and the files for each model. NCC= Network Congestion Control, by default is Reno, it can be changed. More information in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCP_congestion_avoidance_algorithm Thanks
Victek, thanks for putting NCC back in. I know folks say it does not make a difference but in my experience in the past it seemed to. I'll load 9009 up on my E4200 and see how it goes. I loaded 9008 when it came out and I must say your builds run better for me then any of the others. Not sure what you do differently but I do not see some of the performance issues running yours that I get with Tomato mods.
Victek, - can you flash this on the RT-N16? tomato-K26USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.9009MIPSR2-RAF-NCC-VLAN-VPN-NOCAT.trx I thought the N16 does not have 60k ram.
9010 version is a great release now while I'm testing, Sorry to release many versions but now I have time .. (ideas & illusion).
Hi Vic, I installed build 9009 and Jumbo Frames is working. However, the performance isn't any difference with it on or off. Is there anything that can be tweaked as far as that goes ? I have it enabled in the router and NIC settings. Thanks.
Victek, looking forward to 9010. Glad you have found the time, as I said before, yours are the greatest in my opinion. So far 9009 is working for me but I don't do much fancy stuff. Do like being able to add things like guest should I want that. Have had need in the past but not currently. --bill
Well, you know.... Love happens when the group (or two) feels the same? .. so.. you have to investigate if all the devices in the chain (router, switch if any, computers..) are configured to work with jumbo frames also. Verify MTU. I use Whireshark software to verify it and I had to change the additional switch in the chain cause it was not compliant....
Well here is how my setup is. I have a NAS Drive and a PC connected to a Netgear switch That supports jumbo frames. When I test writing and reading a file from the PC to the NAS with jumbo frames enabled, I get a write speed of 88 Mbps and a read speed over 100 Mbps. When I disable JF and do the same test I get a write of 17 Mbps and a read of 33 Mbps. Now when I do the same test from a PC thats connected to the 4200 router that is connected to the netgear switch that the NAS drive is connected to, I get a write speed of 17 Mbps and a read speeed of 23 Mbps. So it seems like JF doesn't seem to be making any difference from the routers end. Or am I doing something wrong ?
The only difference is then you swap Netgear Router by Cisco Router, right?.. I tested on mine side (Freenas<->Cisco E4200<->Windows 7 PC) enabled 98MB/sec, disabled 78MB/sec. Can you specify more details? same IP's? by DHCP or Fix IP? MTU value you use?
No I don't swap the Netgear with the Linksys. They are both on the network all connected together. Just doing 2 different tests from different locations on the network. Ill try and explain it better. My modem and PC#1 is connected to my Linksys 4200 router. Then there is a cat6 cable that goes from the Linksys to a Netgear switch. Connected to that Netgear swtich is PC#2 and a NAS drive. The test where Jumbo Frames is working is when I test from PC#2 (Which is connected after the Linksys router). When I test from PC#1 which is connected directly to the Linksys, JF doesn't give any benifit. IF its still confusing I'll draw a diagram All IPs are given from DHCP but are assigned a static IP in the Router. I am using an MTU of 1500. Thanks Vic.
Understood.. test it from same PC cause performance in PC may vary, so put PC2 in the location of PC1 and test.
Wow Vic your amazing. I would have never thought it was the PC. WHat I did was run a long cat5 cable from PC#1 to the netgear switch and ran the test and JF still wasn't making a difference. So then I took the same cable and ran it from PC#2 to the linksys router and ran the test and JF was working great. This tells me its something with PC #1. Now here is the weird thing. Both PCs use a broadcom network chip and both are using the SAME exact driver. Do you know what would cause PC#1 to not work with JF ?
Let me clean the Cristal Ball , there are several reasons but in most of cases slow HDD, prefetching, low RAM or other programs running in multi task provokes this behavior. But also test packet loss and ACK timing in PC1 location with wireshark.
Wise guy What I ended up doing was restoring a backup of a fresh installation of Windows 7 and everything is now working great, although its going to take me hours to reinstall all of my stuff but I guess I was do for a cleaning anyway Thanks for your help Vic and another donation is on the way !
LOL, only when a bug is found or another feature is needed, in this case please test transfer rate via USB, depending on the detection method the USB transfer speed is very poor. I think the update will solve this problem according to test I did with some storage devices. Thanks to tvlz for the information!!
The real new feature I would love to see integrated is DNSCrypt: http://www.opendns.com/technology/dnscrypt/
I understand it's only for OpenDNS right? do you know other DNS provider using it?.. it's a very restrictive feature.. I don't use OpenDNS for instance.
I will do some more research but I believe it's only for OpenDNS since it's a service that OpenDNS announced (?).
Already available.. read txt files in Beta section and look the available models firmware list... You welcome.
Ehm didn't look.....mornig tierd. I have to take a Big cup coffe and resett. I see all in same file... this confuse me: "tomato-E4200USB"
Sorry for the noob question. The NCC - is it something that is automatically enabled or do you have to do that manually. I cannot find it on the menu of the 9010.
Read this: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/new-victek-releases.33910/page-55#post-179331 .. it's in QoS settings page if you like to enable it. Thanks.
Well I tried but these new builds won't let me run a /8 local LAN, states 255.255.252.0 minimum required.
It was out of my mind somebody likes a /8 LAN since all domestic environment works at /24 .. so you want to work in CLASS A?.. strange not? it's mainly designed for loopback.. and IANA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv4_subnetting_reference Edit... you want 16 millions addresses ?
I'm checking .. thanks. Edit, right, but I don't get 'Undefined error' it opens but the Delete, OK, Cancel buttons are not visible. Only if you press in the number, correct? any other cell in the line works OK? please confirm, I'm using 10.0.2 Ubuntu.
Yes, I know no one needs to run a Class A at home. I used to run 192.168.0.0/24. I like the Class A because of two things: First, I can use the different octets to organize similar devices. My servers are 10.0.1.x, my workstations are 10.0.2.x, my UPSs are 10.0.3.x... My firm's offices runs Class Bs and we do the same thing. Second, I am lazy and the 10.0.0.0/8 network lets me type the ip addresses with the fewest keystrokes. I actually got this idea when I read a poll on another forum as to what subnets people run at home.
Not sure what the problem is, but was attempting to test tomato-E4200USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.9010MIPSR2-RAF-NCC-VLAN-VPN-NOCAT.bin, and can't get past the Basic/Network screen. Have entered all the information, but can't save - save button at the bottom does not do anything. Cancel works. Cleared NVRAM fully twice, tried different browsers, just can't save the values. Never seen this particular problem before. I've had to go back to the Toastman build I was previously running, as could not find a way to get around this issue.
I have my E4200 in front of me and it works, Did you restore config from other version?...remember to erase cache from your browser ...... .. other guys have been using release 9010 and no complaint, you're the only one.
