Well, he's wrong (although I understand why).

OC doesn't improve throughput, we all know that, but it does improve the responsiveness of the gui which is why people do it so saying there's no improvement is simply incorrect.

  2. GhaladReam

    GhaladReam Network Guru Member

I have to agree with everyone else on this one. Vic, why remove OC feature, when some people do like to use it? I thought the idea was to ADD feautres and not remove 'em? :) Give users a choice if they want to OC or not. While it may be your recommendation not to, we should at least still have the GUI option to do so.

P.S. Keep up the awesome work on RAF!

    Cheers.

Victek, are old routers (like WRT54G V2 and similar) going to recieve some love from you? :) :)

For example version 8602 port to kernel 2.4 ? (old boxes run better on K2.4)

As I said some post ago, yes, once K2.6 will be updated with RAF features I'll port to K2.4 ... like 1.28.121006

    Victek,

My apologies but i've looked @ http://victek.is-a-geek.com/tomato.html and while there is plenty of information I do not see any mention of ipv6. I do apologize if i am missing something but if you could point me in the right direction that would be appreciated.

Now i cant get access into my modem.
till yesterday, i've used popular trick:
    Code:
    iptables -I POSTROUTING -t nat -o vlan1 -d 192.168.2.0/24 -j MASQUERADE
ip addr add 192.168.2.2/24 dev vlan1 brd +
(modem ip is 192.168.2.1/24, internal network is 192.168.0.0/16)
I can ping my modem from router, but i can't do it from my computer in internal network.

Just a reminder for those who would like to overclock you can still do so via telnet. And as always overclocking is done at YOUR own risk. If you are new to it please read the many threads here about which frequencies are safe, etc.

    1-Go to command line/telnet

2-enter telnet 192.168.*.* (your router IP)

    3-enter login and password

    4-enter these 3 commands:

nvram set clkfreq=xxx (xxx is whichever relevant cpu speed you chose)
    nvram commit
    reboot

shibby has released a new build of his BT firmware which uses Transmission 2.22. I hope official BT RAF build get updated with these changes, as a lot is apparently fixed in 2.22, and has now been reported to be stable. I also feel more comfortable using Vic's builds :)

    Hi Vicktec!

First of all: thank you for your work, I use your mod since ages...and its very nice, smooth, handy, etc.

I'm playing now with your "Tomato RAF 1.28.8525 ND + VPN" package and I have a problem: when I activate more than one vpn server/client, some settings will be deleted.

First wave disappear a vpn parameter (port, url, TLS Renegotiation Time) and I can't save the vpn settings. In second wave it shut down the wifi ssid broadcast and reset the Beacon Interval.

    It's very strange.

I guessed it's depend about the free memory (if I used shorter certs/keys or delete some static dhcp line...I can do more with the vpn without disappear parameters), because the router drop some unnecessary option.
So I replaced the memory chip to 64MB....now I have tons of free memory, but the situation is the same: when I want config a 2nd vpn server or 1 server+1client, the router reset a config parameter to "empty".

Have you (or anybody) got any idea?

    Thanks in advance!

    Peter

Vic, you and shibby should consolidate your code and have one branch for RAF + VPN + BT as your version and his are essentially the same, i'd rather not bounce around between his branch and yours, whoever updates first. Just a thought.

I'm sure most of us will agree a single consolidated branch of Tomato RAF + VPN + BT is better instead of 2 people releasing their versions of it with basically the same features.

Just throwing this out there, running Asus RT-N16. I installed tomato-K26USB-1.28.8950MIPSR2_RAF-VPN-BT over the previous 8900 build, and had some errors filling the log file, mentioned in a posting a few back but never got to the bottom of them.

Tonight I cleared NVRAM and reconfigured the router from scratch and really had problems then! The log file seemed to lock up and would no longer populate after a few reboots back. The scripts in the administrative section would not run. Weird stuff, and this after an NVRAM clear, never seen it act like this before. I reloaded 8900 over the 8950, leaving all settings alone, and everything is working. Odd behavior, the settings were configured under 8950 and had issues but downgraded back to 8900 and all is well again.

GhaladReam, yes, you're right, shibby copied RAF as a base build and then updated his code, but his interest is going to another features ... ( I expect..), if not then you're right :)

    Hello Victek,
is it maybe possible to increase the number of possible bytes length for scripts?
I have made a few scripts for testing and understanding iptables for tomato
but if the script is too long, it will tell me my script is too long and "only"
8192 bytes are allowed for a script. I am using Tomato RAF 1.28.121006
with Linksys WRT54GL and i really like this.

    Hi Victek,

I'm wondering if the next RT-N16 / K2.6 release will include the 5.60.127.4 drivers....

    Thanks

    EDIT:

I just updated to 1.28.8903......cleared NVRam..... and noticed that "Interference Mitigation" is still set to WLAN Auto as default. I've read this setting is bad / caused problems and should be disabled.

Can anyone comment on the option? What should it be set to? Thanks.

I`m wondering teddy revert a previous version of brcm drivers. Drivers from build52 are more stable and router has better wireless performance. I installed build54 on my RT-N16 and my netbook Asus EEE 1215N didnt see asus wireless network and my ovislink (APClient) had 20% loss. I reverted to beta20 and all works great. btw newer brcm drivers doesnt support asus rt-n10!!

I think my question got skimmed over.

I noticed "Inference Mitigation" is still set to default as WLAN Auto, but I have read this setting causes issues. Does anyone know anything about the option? I used to read recommendations of disabling it.... but if thats true why is it still default to WLAN Auto?

  37. Toastman

Toastman Super Moderator Staff Member Member

It depends on people's own opinions. I have more than a thousand users and I have seen the interference mitigation cause nothing but trouble with dropped connections. So my own personal opinion is that it should be turned off. To be honest, although I've experimented a lot, I'm bound to say it never did anything useful here.

For QOS: are they in shown in *declining* order of priority? That is:
    Service>Games>Media>Remote>WWW>Mail>Messenger>Download>P2P/Bulk>Crawl

Even if you put everything to 1%-100% for each category? Or are they all equal QOS levels for those?

I know that doing the 30-30-30 hard reset is recommended when flashing to another firmware.

I've also heard that some of you have to do it 3x before it works properly. May I ask hwo do I tell if the 30-30-30 didnt reset properly, requiring me to do it another few times?

  44. Toastman

Toastman Super Moderator Staff Member Member

jsmiddleton4 - yes, I've seen that too. I presume "manual" means "on". It's been there a long time and there have been a good many more posts from people since then. Maybe it has been overlooked, or maybe there's just no evidence to warrant removing that advice, I don't know. All I can say is that most of the dropped connections problems I had at several sites disappeared when Interference Mitigation was turned off.

A lot of mobile phones still seem to have problems, but considering the mickey-mouse wireless in them, the lack of any proper antennas, and the fact that our hand is firmly wrapped around it too, I think that's to be expected.

Callous - QOS class priority is top to bottom. Those at the top are handled first and so on down the list. The other parameters are to do with bandwidth asignment, nothing to do with priority.

Can someone shed light in to this... TIA

Router mode is for a second, or third etc., router when setting up a wireless system if you will. One router is a gateway to the internet, the others connect as slaves to the gateway router.

Most use one router and gateway mode.

Is there any plan/will there ever be another k2.4 build for older router?

Have tried this on my RT-N12, and after some time of use, the connections would stop (although the SSID is still broadcast). I guess that's why it's still in Beta - not ready for prime time...

Actually this is the reason I tried out the RT-N12:
    - Available RAM on WRT54G is now becoming a limitation.

Will retry the RT-N12 again with Victek's beta release

I have decided to give a try of the latest beta - tomato-K26-1.28.8605MIPSR1_RAF-Std.trx.
I've flashed one WRT54G and now cannot access it via web interface. My WDS is working but when I try to connect to the router and put user name and password all I receive is blank white page or page timeout.
What can I do? For now I am unable to reset it because it is mounted on a building roof.

Thanks Vic! Using your beta tomato-K26-1.28.8605MIPSR1_RAF-Std.trx on three WRT54GS v.2 units. All in AP+WDS.

The only unit that can get the time is the one connected to the cable modem. The other two WDS clients show time not available, even thought the PCs wired to them have internet access.

Probably just a small bug or wad, but I thought I would post it for you.

Seems to be more stable that the 8603 version. Muchas gracias! :)

The time not showing up is a setting that is missing, not a bug. You have to put the master IP address in gateway as well as static DNS for the slave.

use tftp, it's available in windows (well it is not installed by default in vista+7 for security reasons). it'll give the "cleanest upgrade.

Normally yes but in this case, with this build, I have the gateway and DNS entries but still am not getting time either. Running fine so far otherwise.

    Hi all,

Tomato RAF with NocatSplash (Captive Portal) available, no more words needed, not? ... well, yes, User Manual for new function is included in the menu. Please relax, don't get nervous and search each version for your router before download, upload to your unit and enjoy. Yes, nvram erase is needed during flashing or after first start.

I will include a Changelog .. or not .. cause in few days you will have new features and new version...

Version for WRT54GL solved problems with bandwidth using kernel 2.6, >50mb/BW.

As always you can download in my site, Tomato RAF section. My Thanks to all the people helped me in this integration with special mention to Roadkill.

Many thanks Victek for the new versions

I will Download the new version k2.6 for my WRT54GL

But I also have the Linksys WRT160N v3 with version RAF1.28.8682 MIPSR2_RAF K26, is any update version for routers with 4mb flash and MIPSR2 like mine?

Many thanks again / Muchas gracias por tu excelente trabajo

Wait a second here, let me see if I understand this correctly. Are you saying that you got a K2.6 version to handle (roughly) the same level of traffic as your K2.4 version?! If that is the case, I can't see anyone wanting to continue running the K2.4 version.

If this is the case, have you identified the change that made the performance improvement?

"Normally yes but in this case, with this build,"

No problem here. WDS mode, slave has correct time. Master IP in Gateway and first DNS line in the slave basic setup.

is nvram erase really absolutely necessary in this case? If yes I will do it, but it seems to run fine without... upgrading my RT-N16 from RAF 1.28.8903...

I probably should have been more specific. My comment was a follow-up to brookies post referring to the MIPS R1 beta build tomato-K26-1.28.8605MIPSR1_RAF-Std.trx build. IIRC your slave is an E3000 so I think we're talking about different builds, but correct me if I'm mistaken.

Yes, issues (several limitations) has been fixed. K2.6 is stable now and I'm not using a K2.4 IF your wl_core>7 endif

Hmm, last time i tried your previous k26 build the 54gl cpu was all over the place. If you've truly managed to fix this and made it stable on these old chips I'll be truly amazed. Looks like it's come at the cost of vpn so I'll probably have to finally upgrade this thing - shame as it's done so well for so long.

Will test in the afternoon, fingers crossed :)

I have recently switched to a K24 build on my WL500gP and i was very happy with the routers increased responsiveness and much shorter restart time (with K26 it took more than a minute to be able to connect to the router wirelessly. the K26 tranmission builds are also pretty close to 8MB, so adding more and more features to the firmware may run into a limit soon on 8MB flash routers.

I have converted my WRT320N to a E2000, so I have no USB.

What build is safe for me to use? I see there is a specific one for E2000 with USB (tomato-E2000USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.9001MIPSR2_RAF_NOCAT-VPN).

I'm a bit confused. Sorry in advance if the question was already replied..
    I use on my wrt320n Tomato Firmware RAF1.28.8902 MIPSR2_RAF K26 USB VPN
    (Tomato_RAF-1.28.8902MIPSR2-8MB-VPN.zip).

If I want to update it can I flash:
    • Tomato RAF 1.28.9001.. ONLY FOR 8MB Flash (MIPSR2.Kernel 2.6) Extended + VPN + USB + Captive Portal. Updated MAY 13.2011. For RT-N16/WRT610N

wrt320n is listed on the 4mb firmware that has not vpn support (and I actually use that).

    Thanks

FYI, loaded "tomato-K26-1.28.9001MIPSR1_RAF_NOCAT-Std.trx" in place of the MIPS R1 beta build "tomato-K26-1.28.8605MIPSR1_RAF-Std.trx". At this point I have no use for NoCatSplash so it's turned off. But the time function works and hopefully all will go well. Will report back if I see anything strange. Thanks Victek!
