I just replaced my old BEFSR41 with a WRT54GL and I've read a lot about Tomato Firmware. I'm an average home user and if I install this firmware would the default settings be adequate or are there some changes that need to be made? I'm not a game player.

If the default settings in the stock linksys firmware work for you, then so should the default settings in Tomato.

Thank you for your response, that's what I wanted to know.

Just so you know, with default settings, your internet connection will be wide open for anyone to use. You may wish to create a password for the wireless to prevent that.

    I'm using a wired system.

Well, that doesn't really matter. The WRT54GL is a wireless router, so it has a radio and accepts wireless clients.

I have the wireless disabled now on this system.

You disabled wireless on the router? That works too.

Another thing I'd recommend is to change the router password. Just basic stuff..
