    Hey all,

I have an alcatel speedtouch home 5 lamps as my adsl modem,
    and a linksys WRT54G v2, on a 5MB\500KB adsl line.

When i configure it (on pptp, others wont work for some reason though suppose to as pppoe), it does the dialup and everything ok.
ping seems to be very low like with my 3com,
But the download speed and upload changes from 630K to 440, and upstream from 62K to 34.

I tried changing the MTU but nothing.
I got 2 linksys at the moment to check.

I had a problem with my 3com: when i used emule, utorrent, or Counterstrike server, after a few minutes the connection to the router was lost and i had to restart the router.
After a talk with my ISP they said to change the mtu of the 3com to either 1392 or 1440 which works fine till now.

Now with the linksys on my hands (I need the QoS), it suppose to be working aswell, but no one in israel can give me no answers.

    Please, help. please.

Take this advice with a pinch of salt, as I know nothing about Alcatel modems....;-)

I assume your Alcatel modem can operate either as a router or as a modem.

Is your Alcatel modem set to "dumb" mode, i.e. is your router controlling the connection? If you can connect by pptp, it means that the Alcatel has most likely already established some sort of connection to your ISP, and you are now making a pptp connection "inside" the already established connection.

See if you can set the Alcatel to "dumb" mode - that way the WRT will control the Alcatel and the connection, and all/most configuration is done on the WRT.

Alternatively, have the Alcatel, in "smart mode", make the connection (set up your username, password, etc. on the modem, not on the router), and then your WRT only needs to connect to the Alcatel (over normal ethernet) not to the ISP.
