    Hi there,
I've done a lot of googling on how to set up my network with my new wireless broadband network, but still not a clue on how to do it.

I have a desktop G5 running 10.5 that doesn't have an Airport card or an Airport base station, and I need to create a network so that my apartmentmate (in a separate bedroom) can use wireless on her PC laptop. I'd like to use the WRT54G to connect to my Mac, but I'm utterly lost since I know that this product doesn't officially support Macs.

Thanks so much for your help!

Connecting a WRT54G to a Mac should be no different than connecting it to any other type of computer.

Just connect one of the LAN ports of the WRT54G to the ethernetport of the Mac. Then you should be able to access the webinterface of the router at http://192.168.1.1 (the password is "admin")

Then connect the WAN port of the WRT54G to your DSL-Modem, Cable-Modem (or whatever type of internet connection you are using) and setup the internet connection on the router.

And finally to setup the wireless connection between the WRT54G and the laptop, configure both devices to use the same channel, ssid, wireless protocol (G or B), encryption type and encryption key.

    thanks for your reply...

I'm still trying to figure this out--please note that I know very little/nothing about networking. I'm more savvy than the average computer user that doesn't know what Internet Explorer or Firefox is, but I certainly don't know what many of the terms in networking mean. Here's what I did...

    Connect LAN to G5
Connect WAN port to Cable Modem (the one labelled Internet, I don't know what LAN and WAN mean)
Plug in router to power supply
(when I tried just connecting the Mac and the LAN port, nothing happened, I couldn't access the Admin website)

    Access http://192.168.1.1
Change default admin password to a different password
    Remain utterly confused by instructions
Internet doesn't work on the G5

Here are screenshots I took of the setup website

    Thanks for your help!

    ok follow this...
    | = wire
    ~ = wireless

    DSL or cable modem
    |
    WRT54GS ~ to Laptop
    |
    MAC
    and that should work fine

what that says is that u need to run a wire from ur modem to ur router and a wire from ur router to ur MAC and plug the cable FROM the modem into the Router and the cable FROM the MAC into port 1
and just set up the wireless network
