I am running Victek firmware RAF1.28.121006

I try to telnet into my linksys WRT54GL doing the following on OS x~

    1) Open Terminal
    2) Telnet
    it say "connected to unknown"
    3) login: root
    4) password: <my password>

okay, I'm good so far, it says:

    Tomato v1.28.121006

    BusyBox v1.14.4 (2010-12-06 16:11:11 CET) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

Then that is as far as I get.
    5) type: ls <and it does nothing, just gives me another "#"

What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is look at the directories and files. With the goal of replacing the image in the USBRed theme..

I hope some of that made sense. Thanks!!

Nothing, you are at your home directory and it's empty. Go to root dir first.

    cd /

    COOL! thanks!

Do you know where the image file is located?

Also how do I go back one directory? In DOS, if I remember right it was "cd.."

Same way, just don't forget a space between the cd and the dots.
    cd ..
But really, you can find those anywhere on google. Try looking for some basic linux shell guidance.

do you where i could find the image file for this distro?
    i know the path is
and the image is named "tomatousb.png"

i am just unsure where it is located or how to copy the new image to that location.

Thanks again, i know these are super newb questions, i just didn't know where to look.

I would safely bet it's in the /www, along with the rest of the stuff. But this is a part of the root file system of the tomato, it is read only, and the only way to replace a file in it would be rebuilding the tomato image and reflashing it. Don't you think this is waaaaay too much to bother to just change a pic in the web ui ?

yeah! i didn't know that. i'm just trying to learn some of this. i really appreciate your help!!!

oh well, it was worth a shot. i might try to look at this from a different perspective later.

like, adding custom .css and uploading the image to a new directory that isn't read-only.

    can i do that?

Don't ask me, i have no idea, never tried, never cared about something like that. About custom css - read here: http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq#how_can_i_use_a_custom_color_s

About "directories that are not read only", while you can write to /tmp or something, i bet you want it to stay there after reboot. And the only 2 types of persistent storage i know on tomato are the NVRAM (no, thats NOT a directory) and jffs partition (you can have it setup/formatted from the GUI).

Anyway, right now its 3:10AM here, so have a good night :)
