I read yeasterday the first time about to change the siganl power of my WRT54G.

    my questions:

-is the more of electro smog dangerous?
    -is it dangorous to upgrade.
-is it a new firmware or only a complement to my firmware?
-are all the old functions (security, firewall etc.) with hyper wap still -working?

You should not use the HyperWAP, but should use the HyperWRT firmware on the WRT54G.

Updating the wrong firmware may render the router unusable. There is a way to reflash the firmware to the old firmware if you make a mistake.

Increasing the power output increases the noise level and may shorten the life of the oruter. It is recommended to only increase the power output to only a level that allow the wireless connection to operate reliabily.

The HyperWRT firmware is based on the code for Linksys firmware, it enables options that re hidden and not available in the stock firmware and adds some additional features. It allows you to adjust the power output, to use the thirteen channels available in Europe, expands some of the mumber of setting available. The HyperWRT website has a full explanation of the additions in the firmware.

If you are uing non stock firmware, there is no guarantee that your router will function from the firmware site. You are assuming any risks, but a lot of people use the HyperWRT firmware and other firmware.

The Hyperwrt is based on code from the Linksys firmware 3.01.3, which is the latest version from Linksys at this time. It is the least modified firmware. that allows you to increase the power output of the router. There is a HyperWRT forum at this site, where you can get more information. The Hyperwrt firmware is available at http://www.hyperdrive.be/hyperwrt/
