    I needed to buy a bridge to connect a ReplayTV DVR to my wireless network (Linksys BEFW11S4) and ignorantly bought a WRT54GS router thinking that routers functioned as bridges.

    Is there a third party Firmware upgrade for the WRT54GS that will allow it to function as a bridge?

    I am a complete networking newbie. My main goal is to find a bridge that will work with my Linksys wireless network that does not cost $130 american.

    I have 2 WRT54G (not GS) running as a bridge for my Tivo/PS2/Xbox using Sveasoft Santori firmware. It works really well. Setting only 1 WRT54G to Client Mode is great because all of my other wifi clients can still connect to the AP. :)

    I'm not doing something right

    I am switching my ethernet cable back and forth between the my two routers: AP = Old BEFW11S4, Bridge = New WRT54GS trying to get the Bridge to work. I think the bridge is not working because it does not appear in the AP DHCP clients table and when my computer is plugged in to it, I can't get Internet access.

    Here are the settings of both. Am I missing something? :oops:

    AP = BEFW11S4
    Host Name: <blank>
    Domain Name <blank>
    LAN IP:
    Subnet Mask

    WEP: Disable
    UPnp Services: Disable
    DHCP Server: Enable

    Bridge = WRT54GS

    Host Name: <blank>
    Domain Name <blank>
    MTU: Auto
    Local IP Address:
    Subnet Mask
    DHCP Server: Disable

    Setup Advanced Routing
    Operating Mode: Gateway (other choices are RIP2 Router and OSPF Router)
    There are Static IP Routing Settings but they are all blank

    Wireless Basic Settings
    Wireless Mode: Client
    Wireless Network Mode: Mixed
    Wireless Network Name: linksys
    IP of Associating AP:

    Firewall: Disable

    Thanks for your help,
