After hearing from jagboy and BrainSlayer (answering questions), I made up my mind to try DD firmware. Thought I would wait until the weekend but I became impatient. At 1am I installed it on one of my routers (I work nights) and all I can say is NICE!
Even in an acoholic stuper I was able to flash my 54g v2 with the pre 5 firmware successfully. Made enough changes to connect to PPPoE and other 2 sveasoft routers (WDS) then passed out.
This morning I changed the other 2. I wish I could say without incident but I blew it on the last one. My brick can only be blamed on my impatience. I have always believed that 95% of bricks come from not waiting until the unit is ready (all blinking lights and reboots are finished). I left the room, came back and hit continue before it was done rebooting.

Everything came back, in purple, for a couple of seconds, then died. Having bricked them before (impatience) I knew right away. I tried jagboys documentation on unbricking and all worked well. Reflashed, and there was joy.

Now I have to wait to get home to experiment with some of the features. I will have questions about these and I will put them in a much shorter post.
Thanks again for a job very well done!

That's cool. I'm glad you made the switch to the best all-around firmware out there :)
