See Brainslayers post on the bugtracker for news about no planned DD-Wrt support for Wrtsl54gs (and further development for other linksys products- perhaps????)

    Bummer. :sadbye:

This is a most unfortunate development...

Linksys products have always been good performing (hardware) and SUPERB support - try RMA'ing a 3 year old device with no reciept at other vendors.....

You know - this is kind of like a tee shirt manufacturer no longer selling tee shirts because it might get cold in the winter......

I have a feeling that Linksys will continue to sell Linux based devices because of the lower cost in developing firmware for them and the availabilty of high powered applications for them. If hardware (cost of memory or flash) is driving the issue, these devices will continue to get cheaper. As the demand for more funtionality increases, Linux based devices will prevail. The is a reason why Linksys continues to market Linux based devices - I would guess they are keeping thier options open.

currently are no plans for it, but this can be changed quickly. but since i'm currently talking and dealing with buffalo about a supporting agreement it would a big misstake to fall into these discussions with additional work for linksys since linksys is not interested in supporting in any external free firmware. and the WRT54G v5/gs v5.1 problem shows us that linksys is also not interested in providing cheap linksys supporting devices.
the WRT54SLGS is more expensive and linksys maybe tries to get more profit out of this scene in this way.
here is the deal. if someone provides me a WRT54SLGS for free, i will implement the normal dd-wrt support soon. the usb device support will follow later together with the usb support for the asus wl500g deluxe devices and other usb supporting models. this will be again a special distribution with a embedded samba and tftp server

If anyone is interested, maybe a group buy could be worked out to get one of these for Brainslayer.

Or better yet, if somebody has one they would be willing to be part with, we could contribute to them via paypal, and they could send it to Brainslayer.

    Any volunteers?

  6. Need help with a bricked WRTSL54GS

So, I bought an "SL" Linksys today (without reading enough to discover all this talk of incompatibility and lack of support). I successfully flashed the mini version of DD-WRT, and then cheerfully proceeded to flash the standard version , at which point I bricked my hardware with a bad flash. I've never opened up a router before, or done much electronic tinkering in general. Is there anyone out there that can walk me through recovering my $120 paperweight? I'm on a Powerbook G4, so any solution that would not require me borrowing a loathsome PC would be great, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

My AIM screen name is 'pidip', or you can email me at philip.winston.baughman@gmail.com

    Please help!
