i lucked out today and picked up the last WRT54G v3.0 from walmart. i just wanna know which 3rd party firmware is compatible with this version.

there seems to be a lot of activity with the thibor14 firmware and i wanna give this a shot but on the official thibor website, it says that it's only for the wrt54gs. could i possibly use it on the WRT54G?

if not, what other good alternatives are there? i'm not looking for the best firmware to use, i just wanna find the compatible ones first then i'll do my testing :) thanks in advanced.

You can use Thibor 14, but you'll have to "fool" your WRT54G into thinking it is a WRT54GS first (more to the point, you have to have a firmware loader that won't reject "GS" firmware, because Linksys doesn't want you to have your "free" GS upgrade).

Start by loading the current version of Tofu, or DD-WRT Mini Generic. Then, from there, simply do another firmware upgrade to Thibor, then do a NVRAM Clear and Factory Reset from the factory reset menu under ADMIN, and off you go.

Thibor is experimenting with a direct firmware loader for the "G". I've tested it and it works, but basically it just saves you one flash cycle, and they don't take very long. So until he releases that loader officially, I'd just download Tofu 13c, flash that, then download Thibor 14 (latest) and flash that.

Alternatively, Tofu 13c is good stuff. You can always just try that out for a while and jump to Thibor later if you decide you want the additional stuff, which is primarily the parental controls and a bunch of P2P tweaks, including some nice P2P QoS enhancements.

so i've been using this firmware for a while now and it works great :) but i've recently been wondering if my WRT54G now has the speedboost feature since the thibor firmware was designed for the wrt54gs ... also, is speedboost a hardware or software feature on the router?
